List of best laptops for college and general usage from 150~2000 only for SuggestaLaptop

u/Donamole Do you mean this one if so then it would work for some light games, ut it won’t be the best performance, but if your budget is low then it is your best option.

In the US right now and need to buy a new laptop by tomorrow that may be found in retail store like Best Buy, Walmart, etc

Posted on: April 24, 2018 by LonerIM2

Allow me to quote my list of best gaming and college laptop since I would still recommend this 300~400 range **Acer Aspire E 15.**

* Intel HD Graphics 620 is the best iGPU you can find for this budget which makes the laptop the best option for light gaming on a very tight budget.

* Full HD (TN) 15.6 screen, which is very rare for this budget range and great for watching movies/videos.

* Good upgrades available, can go to 16 GB of ram, and with a little more work than usual you can even fit a SSD on it.

* USB type C which is another rare thing to find on this budget.

I thought I would give you a little more in depth review, so here it goes.

* Battery life is from 7 to 10 hours of normal non gaming usage.
* Backlit keyboard only comes on when you touch the buttons to save battery, it is quite.
* Easily upgradeable, we recommend you add 4GB stick and a SSD if you have the budget for it and it would turn into a perfect laptop (more so than it already was).
* Minimal bloat-ware, speakers are above average like what you would expect from a laptop, Trackpad doesn’t have separate buttons, but they work well, the outer body has a matte finish to it which makes it feel really good even though it is all plastic and doesn’t attract fingerprints easily)

For the lower end of your budget Allow me to quote my list of best gaming and college laptop since I would still recommend this 300~400 range **Acer Aspire E 15.**

If you can go a little over your budget, recommend the 550~650 **Acer Aspire E 15**

* NVIDIA MX 150 which is one of the best for this range and suitable for your usage.

* 8GB DDR4, 256GB SSD both are somewhat standards in 600 range so finding them on 500~ range is somewhat a catch.

* Advertised battery life of up to 12-hours, Backlit Keyboard.

Here is a little in depth review of it :

* Same with the cheaper Acer, it is made from plastic, but it feels sturdy, screen comes with anti glare finish so it will work well outside.

* Battery life is great about 5-8 hours of general usage.
* Backlit keyboard, quite and comfortable, Trackpad have been getting some mixed reviews, I think it is a software issue, or maybe it is because some people are not used to trackpads.

* Speakers are good, above average for laptops in this range, the gaming performance is also above average since it is only MX 150 but it the best for the budget.

* Very thin, very quiet (can barely hear the fans), It has room for more ram as well as more SSD, Fingerprint magnet.

Do I absolutely need a laptop/tablet for college?

Posted on: August 10, 2017 by acknowledged

If you want touch, the **Dell Inspiron 5378** is a veritable beast. The 8GB RAM, i5-7200 256GB SSD model retails for anything between $400 and $600 depending on the day of the week.
If refurbished works, you might get some great deals on Dell outlet for the i7 model.

If you want more battery and lower prices, and don’t care about a powerful processor, the **ASUS ZenBook Flip UX360CA** is a decent buy. Microsoft sells it for $479

Bonus Extra : **Acer Spin 3 SP315-51-37UY** Intel Core i3 7th Gen 7100U (2.40 GHz) 4 GB Memory 128 GB SSD 15.6″ Touchscreen 1920 x 1080 2-in-1 for $480

If you do not care about 2-in-1s or touch, want the absolute best deal, and can lug along a 15 incher, albeit on the lighter side, the **Acer Aspire E15** is an awesome deal on Amazon ($379, i3-7100, 4GB RAM, *HDD Warning*)

If you want the absolute cheapest option one can use without wanting to kill someone, heres the **Dell Inspiron 3168**(1.6 GHz Intel Pentium N3710 Quad-Core 4GB DDR3L RAM | 500GB 5400 rpm HDD) for $279. It is usable but not recommended.

I focussed on lighter options which aren’t computing beasts, based on my understanding of your needs. These are all low-power CPUs with integrated graphics, which means gaming is not a real option and video editing, etc would suck, but that helps a lot with battery life and portability.

Laptop for Civ VI (USA, under $500?, 13-14")

Would this work? (It seems like better graphics are had by moving up to the 15.6″ size.)

Acer E5-523-66ZW
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=1TS-000X-00ND6

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M (This scores well at notebookcheck.net, showing 60 fps on low and 46 fps on med. for Civ VI)

Processor: AMD A6 9210
(Not sure how this compares to the “minimum” AMD Phenom II 2.6 GHz or the “Recommended” AMD FX8350 4.0.) For starters, there are lots of versions of the stated processors.

However–Amazon’s page for this model “E5-523-66ZW 15.6-Inch Full HD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U Processor 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black” only says it has an integrated Radeon R4 Graphics unit. Which is right?

What about this one (#2):

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K1IO3QW/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=IUULSEEO2R131&colid=1M2ZV2403Y0VP&th=1

15.6-Inch Full HD Notebook (Intel Core i3-7100U Processor 7th Generation , 4GB DDR4, 1TB 5400RPM Hard Drive, Intel HD Graphics 620, Windows 10 Home), Obsidian Black

Finally (#3), “ASUS F402BA-EB91 VivoBook 14″ Laptop, AMD A9 Processor, Radeon R5 Graphics, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB 5400RPM HDD, USB-C, Windows 10”

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072Z9ZGSY/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I37ARQL9WOPFVF&colid=1M2ZV2403Y0VP

#1 and #2 are about $350, #3 is $400. Is one of these obviously better or worse than the others?

[Here is a laptop for 350 USD that has a 1080p screen and should work for basic stuff. It has no SSD, but this could be added im sure for about 50 bucks, but you would have to be able to know how to switch the OS to the ssd. I don’t know how many budget laptops in this price range actually have an SSD though] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575-33BM-15-6-Inch-Processor-Generation/dp/B01K1IO3QW/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1501991108&sr=1-3&keywords=laptop)

Here is another good option for simply streaming things and surfing the web. The display is probably the best out of all of them, it is a bit more priced at 400 usd though. It is a convertible though, so if you are watching shows on it, you may enjoy that. It’s chrome OS, which a lot of people hate, but for what you are doing, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem. Just know, it’s essentially a bigger, glorified tablet with the restrictive OS

Should be about a 910M and a 920M in terms of gaming performance. Nothing special, but pretty good considering the price. Could get you rocket league on low-medium at pretty decent fps.

Best Laptop recommendations for students, gamers or for the office: August 2017

> Civiliation

The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575 can manage the games you mentioned with the exception of Binding of Isaac easily. Binding of Isaac might stress the CPU, as for the RAM its easy to upgrade the 4 to 8 cheaply. The Acer from my list would handle it though.

I’m waffling between the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM from the quick picks in the sidebar and the Acer mentioned here

I’m looking for something that can handle normal web browsing, basic video editing, and minor games I play Civiliation, Stardew Valley, Binding of Isaac, mostly casual type games on my laptop. I save Witcher and so on for console. I’m just not sure that Intel i3 and 4gb of memory is enough to handle that.

Laptop for College - riding bicycle for commuting

You said weight is very important , how heavy is too heavy ? for this range I usually recommend the **Acer Aspire E 15.**

* Minimal bloat-ware, speakers are above average like what you would expect from a laptop, Trackpad doesn’t have separate buttons, but they work well, the outer body has a matte finish to it which makes it feel really good even though it is all plastic and doesn’t attract fingerprints easily).

Looking for a step up from what I have.

Laptop for connecting to HDMI, HD Streaming, Light Gaming, Internet Browsing

For $350 the Acer E 15 is the best budget laptop that can do some gaming. It has an intel Kaby Lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram (which you can upgrade), a 1TB HDD, and HD 620 graphics. The display is a 15.6″ 1080p display (TN), weighing 5.3 lbs, with a 12 hr advertised battery. It’ll work for games like LoL, DOTA, CS:GO, and even Overwatch or WoW on light settings, and many indie games as well.

If this is used you might consider used/refurbished Thinkpads (T/P/W/X series) instead for this price.

If this is new, and you want a new option, I might suggest this over it: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575-33BM-15-6-Inch-Processor-Generation/dp/B01K1IO3QW/ Unless you’re not in the USA. Which country are you buying from?

The $350 Acer with an i3, or the $580 Acer with a GTX 940MX?

Realistically either would work just fine. You would obviously notice a bit better performance on the $580 version, and multi-tasking would be easier with 8gb of ram. If you’re doing 3D graphics work in Unity, the 940MX will also be helpful in graphics rendering. It’s a solid choice though, and there’s reason they’re both two of the top selling options on amazon.

thanks! so it’s basically a better (also more expensive) version of the one I posted in the comments? ($350 one.)
Double the RAM, SSD instead of HD, and a better graphics card? but costs $220 more?. I have an SSD in my current laptop 2 years ago that I added myself..its only 119 GB though…I’m only using 33 of it.

no need to worry, the **Acer Aspire** is a good laptop to get in your budget. It is also easy to upgrade, as for build quality for the price you can’t expect it to be the best out there but it is good for the price. Since you want to upgrade in the future you might want to look at **This** , you might notice that it has double the RAM and a SSD so factor those into your future budget

Best laptop for programming?

Posted on: June 16, 2017 by Michiganders

The Acer E15 you mentioned is certainly an excellent option if you’re looking to upgrade it. Otherwise, if you’re fine with refurbished you could also try to get something a bit more powerful that won’t make you have to purchase RAM and an SSD separately. Something like a refurbished Acer E5 for $420 comes with a more powerful Kaby lake i5, 8gb of ram, 256gb SSD and HD 620 graphics. Otherwise it’s very similar to the first Acer mentioned.

Laptop under 400 dollars

Posted on: June 16, 2017 by Michiganders

My best suggestion would be the Acer E15 for $350. It has some of the best specs you’ll find for the price range with a kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram, 1TB HDD and HD 620 graphics. The ram and hard drive can also be updated if you would like to do so in the future. It has a long 12 hour battery life, and a full 1080p TN display as well. The HD 620 graphics will work just fine for any light gaming and can play League of legends extremely well.

For more suggestions to get a better idea of what you’re looking for, you can look at my comprehensive list of recommendations here.

Linux Laptop for developer ~$800

Could get a T570 for this price if you use the perks discount. http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/perksoffer/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-t-series/T570/p/22TP2TT5700?passcode=NJ*PERKSEPP

Note that the 1920×1080 IPS is much better than 1366×768 TN when it comes to picture quality (contrast and viewing angles). DIY-upgrade RAM and SSD yourself.

——

This Acer has pretty good battery life though. 1920×1080 display isn’t like the T570’s, but the battery life is good and you won’t be spending more than you need. Not sure particularly how good its linux support is though. EDIT: Link https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575-33BM-15-6-Inch-Processor-Generation/dp/B01K1IO3QW/

500~550 **The Acer Aspire E 15** Not the same model.

* NVIDIA 940MX which is one of the best for this range but still not great for newer games Benchmark(use the same website to check the benchmarks of the other GPU from the right hand list).

* Speakers are good, above average for laptops in this range, the gaming performance is also above average since it is only 940MX but it the best for the budget.

* Very thin, very quite (can barely hear the fans), It has room for more ram as well as more SSD, Finger print magnet.

What NOT to buy or avoid in a laptop

Posted on: April 25, 2017 by LonerIM2

OK, some fair points, I will try to address them all properly, point one, if you check the links most of the results are mid 200 range, within the same range you can get a refurbished business class dell or a ThinkPad, both would get you a very good older gen dual core i5 which is way better than those CPUs I mentioned, they would also come with very good build quality, and great supporting specs (like 8 GB of ram and even SSD if you look hard enough).

> Avoid low resolution laptops mainly 1366×768 laptops.

I mentioned right next to it unless your budget is lower than 300 and the reason for that is this acer Aspire, it comes with full HD screen, dual core i5, 1 TB of HDD and 4 gb of ram ( a little on the low side but it can be upgraded to 16 if needed which is great for the price point), and the difference on the eye is not the only reason we recommend Full HD over HD it also provide you with more screen real state (will be able to use multi screens better because each pixel can provide more information).

> If you have two configurations that you have in mind, first go for the more powerful CPU/GPU because those are not upgradeable, and then favor SSD over HDD.

In this line I meant to say that if you are comparing two laptops within the same price range one has weaker CPU/GPU but with SSD over HDD and another laptop with more powerful CPU/GPU but with HDD rather than SSD then the better choice would be the one with better CPU and GPU and only HDD because later on you can upgrade/replace the HDD with a SSD but you won’t be able to upgrade the CPU/GPU later on.

> Honestly IMO this is probably the only legit advice you’ve given that seems to fit with the title of the post.

Thanks 🙂 I appreciate you giving credit when credit is due.

> Unfortunately 9/10 you will always find a better laptop in some area, technology moves fast, very fast. Your laptop is already replaced a week after purchase with something slightly better.

By that statement I meant a better deal, or something wrong with the device that he doesn’t know about like if a certain model is known to overheat, or has quality control issues, or over priced which is the main reason behind this post and this subreddit.

> it feels like things are worded wrong, or the advice just seems somewhat half assed :/

Give me better wording or better advice and I will gladly edit/update the post and give you credit for it.

You are very correct about this article, It needs to be updated and fast, it was made almost a year ago and it was outsourced, unfortunately I don’t have the time to rewrite it, but I will look for writers soon, more informed ones 🙂

if you want to go this low budget wise then this acer would be a better option if you are welling to manually install another 4 GB of ram, if not then this Acer Aspire E 15 is what I would go with if I were you.

Lowest one for your budget is this Acer-Aspire because it comes with everything you need , 4GB of ram but I recommend you install another 4GB ram because 8 GB is what is recommended for smooth multitasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD screen which is a great feature to have for this price range, very good battery life, and it is within your budget

15 inch screen, Budget of 550$ in the United States

Posted on: April 2, 2017 by LonerIM2

Well in this case you have 2 main options, either this acer and add a 4GB ram stick to it and you would be under 400 total, or you can get this acer and you wouldn’t need to install anything manually, get a fast but smaller SSD, those are the best 2 options I can think of.

Good laptop in ballpark of 350 with touchscreen

Posted on: April 1, 2017 by LonerIM2

If you can upgrade manually, I would recommend this Acer Aspire because it comes a powerful enough CPU, powerful iGPU with HD 620 for any light gaming or photo editing, 4 GB of ram (recommended to increase it to 8 GB once you have enough budget), 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD screen which is great to have for this price range, very good battery life, and it is within your budget

The reason for that is, it has DDR4 memory, so faster general performance, plus better battery life due to kaby lake being more efficient
It also has a FULL HD screen, which IMO is better

Get this. Better batterylife, almost same performance as the Swift even with the i3 (newer, better i3). Has an m.2 SSD slot, so you can easily add a 128/256GB SSD to accompany the included 1TB. Add another 8GB stick for a total of 12GB, all for less than $420-440 depending on the components. You can also not add this stuff, but the SSD is a pretty good addition. It’s also pretty popular (as you can see from the reviews and questions, so support should be pretty good/easy).

Take a look at the **Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM**,depending on what it’s used for, it can stay up to 10 hours unplugged. It has a 7th Generation Intel Core i3-7100U Processor that can manage ,has a 1TB HDD with a pretty good build quality compared to laptops around this price. It has a optical drive with a backlit keyboard and the 4gb ram can easily be upgraded if you want.

If you are overwhelmed check my list it will help you cut down your choices, there is few options there that you would like.

If you want to cut it down even more then I would suggest taking a look at Acer Aspire E 15 if you want to budget a little as it is close to the battery life you want and will be able to handle both the games you mentioned, but it doesn’t come with backlit keyboard.

Or you can go with Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with everything you asked, battery life 9+ (with medium usage), Backlit keyboard, within budget almost the perfect option.

debating between these two laptops...

Posted on: February 23, 2017 by LonerIM2

If you are going to do any light gaming then I would recommend this one because it comes with a more powerful CPU/iGPU which should increase your gaming performance, it has double the storage, but you would also need to add a 4 GB ram to make the multi tasking better, if you are not up to that then this one because it already comes with 8GB of ram and you won’t need to do any upgrades to it

Looking for a cheap but efficient laptop for WoW

Posted on: February 23, 2017 by Michiganders

If you’re looking for something new, I would suggest looking into the Acer E15 for $350. It is a solid, budget friendly laptop with pretty decent specs and a good display. It comes with a kabylake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It also has a 1080p TN display, a backlit keyboard, and a very long battery life. It has intel HD 620 graphics which work okay for world of warcraft.

You would have to turn graphics down to get smooth FPS, but performance would be about 10-20% better than what is seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SIp_bk3ZmI

You would be able to get pretty solid frame rate (~60), but you’d have to play on lowest settings and would get frame drops during high intense gameplay.

More realistically, the $480 Acer E5 with a GTX 940MX dGPU would probably work quite a bit better, and would be a good base laptop for WoW if you can afford the step up to it.

You can also see more of my suggestions in this list here.

Laptop for Mother, $500 budget?

Posted on: February 18, 2017 by Michiganders

If you want to budget a bit, I may suggest the Acer E15 for $350. It should work well for light / moderate needs with pretty decent specs, and it come with a long battery life. It has a kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It also has a 1080p TN display, a 12 hr advertised battery life, and weighs in at 5.3 lbs. If you think she may want a touchscreen and a bit more power, I would suggest the Dell Inspiron 15 for $467 – which has similar specs but with a skylake i5, 8gb of ram and a 1TB HDD.

My best suggestion though is a bit above your price range and is the ASUS F556UA for $530. It doesn’t have as much storage, but it will have a much faster SSD which I think she would like a lot. It also comes with a new kaby lake i5 processor and 8gb of ram. It has a 1080p TN display (a pretty good one), a solid build quality, and a pretty good battery life.

It doesn’t have an SSD but it does have another storage slot so you can upgrade and add another SSD yourself. There is also another RAM slot if you want to upgrade and add another 8gb ram stick to have 12gb total (or replace both for 16gb).

Posted on: February 9, 2017 by Michiganders

Not really. You’d be much better off buying the new version of the Acer E15 from Amazon for $350. Although the Amazon version only comes with an i3 rather than the i5 on the one you linked, the i3 is only 8-10% less powerful. The Amazon one also has a much better 1080p display compared to the 720p display on the newegg one. Finally, the Amazon one has a much better battery.

In that budget, based on what you are looking for, my best recommendation is this Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM that comes with a nice 7th generation i3 processor, 4 GB RAM and very importantly, the Intel HD Graphics 620 which though it’s an integrated graphics, will do a decent job at the games you mentioned.

Posted on: January 24, 2017 by mechaturtles

OP, I recently just bought and received the Acer Aspire E 15 (i3 version, not i5) today because so many people in this sub recommend it. The Aspire features a backlit keyboard, 1080p HD matte screen, 4GB of upgradeable ram ($20 for another 4GB), and an i3-7100U.

I’m currently typing from it right now and I just played CS:GO (minimum 30 fps on medium) and LoL (no lower than 60 fps on high settings). The i3 is plenty enough for me, but I would recommend /u/Orangematz’s suggestion for the i5 version if you can afford it.

$200-400 budget, refurbished ok

Posted on: January 24, 2017 by LonerIM2

If you plan on watching a lot of movies/videos or do some light gaming/photo/video editing then I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with a 1080P screen which is a great plus and very rare for this price range, and it comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which will help great with the other usage I just mentioned.

If you are not going to do the above then I would recommend this Lenovo-Thinkpad-T430 because it is cheaper, comes with smaller screen, double the ram and SSD which is much better than a 1 TB HDD for faster booting and program loading.

Should this be good for a non heavy user ?

Posted on: January 21, 2017 by edit1754

I personally wouldn’t recommend this Dell, since it has the limiting 1366×768 resolution, which doesn’t let you fit much onscreen, at a price where that can be easily avoided. I usually recommend this laptop at this price, since it has 1920×1080. No SSD, but that can be easily installed later. (Though neither fit OP’s desire to have a 2-in-1)

Could get a used Thinkpad off of eBay if you don’t mind no warranty or a limited warranty.

Try to get one with 1920×1080 resolution.

Looking for an affordable laptop with a long battery life

I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, also comes with the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is dual core and should be able to handle some light music production and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light photo editing/gaming, it only comes with 4 GB of ram but that is upgradeable to 16 and 1 TB HDD, but you can also replace that with a SSD once you have enough budget, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus, also has a full numbad which you might need for coding and above all great price point.

I think the Acer E5-575-33BM would do better than the second model. In the absense of a dedicated GPU, i3-7100U has faster Intel HD 620 integrated graphics than the Intel HD 520 in the i5-6200U.

Glancing over the videos again. The Civ VI performance is a little lacking (15-20FPS), but I do know that it isn’t really a game that requires ground-breaking 60-144FPS. So yeah, if that’s acceptable, it can work.

Or, you could even meet in the middle (if you don’t mind going with lower build quality but still want a decent price) by going with something such as this.

If gaming performance is a priority though, then the Acer w/ the 940MX is probably the best option.

Anyways, no problem. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Budget laptop for student, $400 budget, 15 inches ideal

Your best option is probably the Acer E15 for $350. It comes with pretty decent specs with a new kabylake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has an extra ram and storage slot, so if you really want it to be powerful, I would suggest buying an 8GB ram stick for ~$30 and a 120-128GB SSD for ~$50 and upgrading the machine, then install Windows on the SSD. It also has an incredibly long battery life (advertised up to 12 hours), a 1080p display, and a backlit keyboard. It has intel HD 620 graphics which are about the best you’ll find in this price range and should work pretty well for light gaming / photo editing.

No Skype. You’ll need to use something like Hangouts.

Google Docs.

I’d suggest going with this.

Chromebook or something else (x-post /r/frugal + questionnaire)

Posted on: January 9, 2017 by SaneBRZ

> Skype

No Skype on Chromebooks. You can use the web client on Skype, but it’s limited to text chat.

> Keep my old I-Tunes library

No iTunes on ChromeOS, but you could upload everything to Google Music and stream it.

> Office.

ChomeOS -> No MS Office. Only online alternatives like Google Docs available.

If you can’t live without Skype and iTunes, then get something with Windows. The Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM wouldn’t be a bad choice. And if you don’t mind something refurbished, you could get something with higher build quality. There are ton of decent older business line laptops out there for under $300. Something like a Dell Latitude E6230/E6330/E6430 or Lenovo ThinkPad X230/T430 are the to go choices in this case. You can find them on eBay, Newegg or Amazon. Or maybe even check woot.com.

The Acer E5-575-33BM has 1920×1080 anti-glare, and is recommended around here a lot.

But, like most 1920×1080 laptops in this price (edit: and all 15.6″ 1366×768 of course), the viewing angles and contrast of the panel aren’t very good. The only IPS ones I know of are either a bit over budget (this one too) or are glossy touchscreens (this one too).

You can type and edit resumes as well as apply for jobs, surf the internet etc…It has Windows operating system which is perfect as it allows you to use Microsoft Office applications such as words, Publishers etc all of which will possibly be needed in editing as well as putting resumes and letters together.

Looking for a budget laptop $300-400

Posted on: January 6, 2017 by Michiganders

Maybe look into something like the Acer E15 for $350 if you want good value. Although it doesn’t have an i5, it has an i3 and mixes a decent display with okay specs and an okay build quality. It has a new kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has a 1080p display, a backlit keyboard, and a very long battery life.

If you really want an i5, maybe look into the Dell Inspiron 15 for $420. It’s slightly over budget, but it’s probably the best option because it also has a decent display. It has a skylake i5 processor, 8gb of ram and a 1TB HDD, mixed with a 1080p display and an ok battery life.

They’ll both work fine for light games like CS:Go, but not much more demanding since they only have integrated graphics. To get more gaming potential you’ll need to up your budget to ~$500.

Try to get a 1920×1080 display. That laptop’s 1366×768 display won’t let you fit much onscreen, and will force everything onscreen to be rather large. This kind of a display difference will likely affect how nice your computer is to use, more than the differences between most other specs.

This Acer has a 1920×1080 display and will also be better at Overwatch: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-E5-575-33BM-15-6-Inch-Processor-Generation/dp/B01K1IO3QW/

The specs might sound lower, but the CPU is a newer 7th gen which means faster Intel HD 620 graphics. RAM is lower but RAM can be upgraded yourself if you need to ($25 for an extra 4GB stick to make it 8GB, which should improve GPU performance too since having two sticks of RAM makes it dual-channel which is faster, and the Intel integrated graphics depends on the normal RAM).

The Acer linked by MIKESAL will be notably better at Overwatch, with its NVIDIA GTX 950M dedicated GPU, if you have a higher spending budget.

Looking for something around $400 with lots of speed. Any advice?

If you are interested in budgeting, the Acer E15 for $350 if probably your best option. It mixes a decent display with okay specs and an okay build quality. It has a new kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has a 1080p display, a backlit keyboard, and a very long battery life.

If you’re interested in having an SSD, maybe look into the ASUS X555DA for $433. It has comparable specs with an AMD A10 processor, 8gb of ram, and a 256GB SSD which will be quicker but not give as much storage. It also has a 1080p display, and it’s lighter than the E15 at 4.65 pound (the E15 is 5.3 pounds).

How little can I get away with spending? (US)

Posted on: January 3, 2017 by edit1754

If you want to go to $349, I’d try to at least get a 1920×1080 display. That Z50 has 1366×768, which won’t let you fit much onscreen, and will force everything onscreen to be rather large. If you want a $349 option, get this Acer E5-575-33BM.

But the IdeaPad 700 that Orangematz linked will be better, with its dedicated NVIDIA GT 950M GPU (DDR3 variant), and better quality (IPS) 1920×1080 display.

It also has a 1080p display, and it’s lighter than the E15 at 4.65 pound (the E15 is 5.3 pounds).

Also if interested in something much more portable, maybe the Acer Swift 3 for $500, which comes with a skylake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 128gb SSD. Its much lighter with a 14.0” display and weighing in at 3 pounds. It also has a 1080p display, and a long battery life.

I was just suggesting this to someone with similar needs, so allow me to repeat myself If you want to budget a little then I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, also comes with the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is dual core and should be able to handle some light music production and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming like League of Legends, it only comes with 4 GB of ram but that is upgradeable to 16 and 1 TB HDD, but you can also replace that with a SSD once you have enough budget, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

Or if you can push your budget a little then I would recommend this Lenovo because it comes with quad core i5-6300HQ which is one of the best in the market and much better option for music production, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good quality 15.6 full HD IPS screen which is a great screen for this price point, with 1 Year Warranty, 1TB of HDD for storage, 950M GPU which is a nice bonus if you plan to do any gaming or photo/video editing and the best you can get for this budget.

Then I would recommend this Dell Latitude E6430 because it comes with Intel Core i7-3520M 3MB which is more powerful than the i5 6200 that you would be able to get for this budget, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 128 GB for faster boot up and loading, and it is just enough for your budget.

Or you can get this Acer Aspire E 15 if you prefer new because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, also comes with the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is not as powerful as the i7 but should still be able to support light cad and video editing work and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming/light video editing, it only comes with 4 GB of ram but that is upgradeable to 16 and 1 TB HDD, but you can also replace that with a SSD once you have enough budget, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

Towards the lower end of your budget I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price and is recommended if you are watching videos a lot(or editi them and that is why I recommend this over a 17.3 inch laptop, because it would be hard to find the same resolution on a similar priced laptop but with a bigger screen), also comes with the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is powerful enough for your general usage and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming/light video editing, it only comes with 4 GB of ram but that is upgradeable to 16 and 1 TB HDD, but you can also replace that with a SSD once you have enough budget, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

Is this the best gaming laptop @ $350?

Posted on: December 30, 2016 by edit1754

I usually suggest this one at this price: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-i3-7100U-Windows-E5-575-33BM/dp/B01K1IO3QW/

You’ll likely benefit from the 1920×1080 res more (outside of gaming, making the computer nice to use in general) than having the i5 versus the i3.

1366×768 resolution doesn’t let you fit much onscreen and in 15.6″ it makes things onscreen rather large.

^(There’s also the possibility that you could swap a 1080p display into the i5 768p model, but there’s no way to know that without knowing if the cables for the 768p models are the same 2-lane cables as the 1080p model cables)

Either way, the Intel HD 620 is your bottleneck.

If you can push your budget a bit, maybe look into the Acer E15 for $350. It has pretty decent specs which should work well, and a solid display for watching videos. It comes with a new kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram, and a 1TB HDD. It has a 1080p TN display, and a very long battery (advertised up to 12 hours).

If you really want to stay at $300, my best suggestion would be the Acer ES 15 for $300. It pretty decent specs and a fine build quality. It comes with a skylake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has a 720p TN display, and decent battery life (advertised up to 6.5 hours).

For watching movies and videos we recommend 1080P screen, and for smooth multitasking we recommend 8 GB of ram and 1 TB should be more than enough, if you are on a tight budget then I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price and is recommended if you are watching movies a lot, the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is powerful enough for your general usage and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming, it only comes with 4 GB of ram but that is upgradeable to 16 and 1 TB HDD, but you can also replace that with a SSD once you have enough budget, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

If 1080P is a must I would recommend you push your budget and get this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is powerful enough for your general usage and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming like war thunder, it only comes with 4 GB of ram but that is upgradeable to 16 and 1 TB HDD, but you can also replace that with a SSD once you have enough budget, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

If not then I would recommend refurbished (better value for money that way) and recommend this HP Elitebook 8460p because it comes with great specs, dual core i5, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, and 250GB of HDD for storage and it has 14 inch screen which fits your preferred screen size.

Specs wise we try to aim for dual core i5, 8 GB of ram, SSD and 1080P screen, hopefully IPS, but those are usually mid 600, if you want to save a lot then I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is powerful enough for your general usage and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming, it only comes with 4 GB of ram but that is upgradeable to 16 and 1 TB HDD, but you can also replace that with a SSD once you have enough budget, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

But if you want something smaller and light weight (Which I usually recommend because you will be carrying your laptop on a daily basis, then I would recommend checking this list of best college laptops.

Exactly what laptop you should purchase depends on your needs. The HP that Orangematz mentioned is a good option if you want a really good display and a decent amount of power, since it has an i7, 256gb SSD and an IPS display.

In this thread I outline some of the best deals on the market right now: https://www.reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/comments/5i59xx/2016_holiday_season_laptop_suggestions_gaming/

If you want to save money, there are other options. I would not recommend the ASUS F556UA because there are other laptops with more value for their price. I would suggest the Acer E15 for $350 over the ASUS because they have identical specs, but the Acer’s processor is newer and it has a much longer battery life.

You could also look into the HP 15 for $430. It comes with a skylake i5 processor, 8gb of ram and 128gb ssd. It’s a better option if you don’t need much storage, as you’ll likely enjoy the speed of an i5 and an SSD. This laptop also has a 1080p display, and a decent battery (advertised up to 7 hour 15 min)

There is another storage slot if you would like to add more in the future as well. Its intel HD 520 graphics will also work okay for garry’s mod. If you’re looking for something near the top of your budget I may suggest looking into something like the Acer E15 for $350. It will be one of your more powerful options with good specs. It has a new kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It also has a full 1080p display, and a very long battery life (advertised up to 12 hours).

If you’re fine with a bit less power but want a smaller laptop at 14.0”, I would suggest the ASUS Vivobook for $310 (now on sale from $370). It also has decent specs with an intel N3700 processor, 4gb of ram and 128gb ssd. It’s battery is pretty long too advertised at up to 10 hours, a light weight at 3.3 pounds, and it has a 1080p display.

I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is powerful enough for your general usage and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

Need help determining the best of these two and if they are good laptops

Posted on: December 20, 2016 by edit1754

I would recommend looking for something with a 1920×1080 resolution, not 1366×768. 1366×768 doesn’t let you fit much onscreen, and in such a large display forces everything onscreen to be rather large. I would consider the display before CPU and RAM and whatnot, because the display tends to have a lot more of an effect on how nice a computer is to use, and I would avoid the two laptops you’re looking at because they both come with 1366×768 displays.

One of these would be good:

– http://www.costco.com/Acer-Swift-3-Laptop—Intel-Core-i5—1080p.product.100316020.html (if you have Costco — it’s more expensive elsewhere)

Should I keep this HP 15-f387wm?

Posted on: December 20, 2016 by edit1754

the Acer E5-575-33BM is the model I usually suggest at this price rather than ones like the one you got, because it has a 1920×1080 display rather than 1366×768.

Look at the display in the laptop you have. Notice how you aren’t able to fit more than one window onscreen at a time reasonably, and many pages require a lot of scrolling. A 1920×1080 display makes that a lot better, especially if you drop scaling down to 100%.

The Intel HD 620 graphics in the Acer’s i3 also tend to perform better than the Radeon R5 graphics in the one you have.

My mom wants a laptop.

I would avoid the IdeaPad 310 mentioned in the other comment, and aim for something with a 1920×1080 resolution display.

1920×1080 displays aren’t necessarily for displaying 1080p content, the reason to avoid 1366×768 is because it doesn’t let you fit much onscreen and forces everything onscreen to be rather large.

$479 is a high price for a laptop to come with such a poor display.

One of these would be good:

Looking for Light Work/ Gaming laptop around $200

I usually would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is powerful enough for your general usage and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is good enough for light gaming, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

If you can push your budget over 500 then I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 E5 because it comes with 940MX GPU which is great for light to mid rangegames, dual core i5 for your general usage and stronger than the i3 mentioned on the other Acer, 8GB DDR4 which is enough ram for smooth multi tasking, Good SSD storage (256GB) for faster booting and and overall performance, 15.6-inch Full HD which is great for video watching and it is within your budget range.

If you can do with a tower that would be a better option because you won’t be able to play CiV 6 on high settings with anything near that budget, if you can settle for low settings with low FPs and have to have a laptop then I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with great value for money, it comes with 15.6″ Full HD 1920*1080 screen which is the best you can get for this price point and usually available for much higher price, the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is powerful enough for your general usage and comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which would be able to run the games you mentioned on low settings with some customization, it also has great battery life (advertised 12 hours on light usage), 1 – USB 3.1 (Type C) which is a great plus and above all great price point.

A laptop for my Mom's Christmas present

Posted on: December 16, 2016 by LonerIM2

I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 mainly because it comes with 1920 x 1080 resolution which is the best you can get for this price range (all others would come with lower res and would be much less enjoyable when watching videos/movies and annoying for reading text), and it comes with the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is again one of the best to get for your budget, and Intel HD Graphics 620 which is great for some light photo editing/light gaming.

Device for reading articles etc?

Posted on: December 14, 2016 by LonerIM2

Well the 1366×768 resolution on your screen could be a reason for this issue, we usually recommend higher res like 1920*1080, but the lowest is still way over your budget, like this but it is way over budget, can you maybe sell yours as used and buy this and upgrade it (mainly more ram and then later if needed add a SSD).

Here are a few laptop you could take a look on:

* Lenovo Z50-75 Signature Edition Laptop
* HP Laptop ProBook 455 G3
* Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM (it wouldn’t be bad to buy another 4 GB RAM module for this one)

I know you said your max is 300, but I would highly recommend that you push it a little and get this Acer Aspire E 15 mainly because it comes with 1920 x 1080 resolution which is the best you can get for this price range (all others would come with lower res and would be much less enjoyable when watching videos/movies), and it comes with the new Intel Core i3-7100U Processor which is again one of the best to get for your budget, and Intel HD Graphics 620 which is great for some light photo editing/light gaming.

I agree with shopineer, this Acer Aspire E is a great option, but since it is out of stock then another good option if you can get past the 1366×768 resolution would be this Dell insipiron i3543 because it comes with the much more powerful GPU 820M GPU that would handle this games on low to medium settings, it is still under budget, but it does come with only 4 GB of ram which sadly can not be upgraded.

I agree with both Shopineer and Michiganders, this would be the best option that comes to mind for this budget, but since it is out of stock you might want to buy it from here, it is a over the original price, but it comes with no tax, so depending on where you are it might be a good option.

If you want to save more, maybe look into the Acer E15 for $340. It has new Kaby Lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. The ram and storage are also upgradable. It’s graphics are intel HD 620 which aren’t the best but are still powerful enough for just about any steam / browser game / minecraft. It also has a full 1080p display and a very long battery life.

If you want more RAM and an SSD, with slightly less gaming potential, look into the HP 15 for $430. It has a skylake i5 processor, 8gb of ram and a 128GB SSD (upgradable if you wish). It also has a decent battery life, a lightweight for a 15.6” at 4.65 pounds, and a 1080p display. It’s graphics are intel HD 520 which are about 15% less powerful than the HD 620 graphics of the Acer, but likely still fine for most of his needs. Lower build quality though.

I would suggest looking into the Lenovo Z51 for $420. It is probably your most powerful option in your price range, and the only thing I can think that would be able to run games like Planet coater (only on light graphics). It has a skylake i5 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has AMD R7 M360 Dedicated graphics which should work okay for Planet coaster. It also has a 1080p display, and a okay battery life.

If you want to save more, maybe look into the Acer E15 for $330. It has new Kaby Lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. The ram and storage are also upgradable. It’s graphics are intel HD 620 which work fine for most low intensity games, including Starcraft and CS:GO (can also play Overwatch with around 45 FPS on low settings). It also has a full 1080p display and a very long battery life.

I was just saying this on your other post, so I will repeat myself and recommend This Acer Aspire E 15 mainly because it comes with (1920 x 1080 resolution) which is the best you can get for such a low budget and recommended for watching videos/movies or even reading text a lot so it wouldn’t put strain on your eyes, 4GB of ram (which is not enough, I would recommend making it 8 GB if you need to or if you have enough budget for it to get smooth multi tasking), 1 TB of HDD for storage, Intel HD 620 which is the best and latest iGPU you can get for this budget and would run to your games with ease and it is really great value for the price.

Just going to repeat my post, as I’d still give the same suggestion.

I would suggest the Acer E15 for $330. It’s a pretty good value laptop that’s currently on sale for $20 off. It’s specs include a new Kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has intel 620 graphics which are integrated but can still play CS:GO and other light games very easily. It comes with a full 1080p display, and an extremely long battery life (advertised up to 12 hours).

The RAM and storage are also upgradable.

Unfortunately I don’t think you’ll find anything under 15 inches that will really fit your needs. Most smaller laptops are more expensive, unless you go with a chromebook. At least 11 inches, in USA, $300-400 dollars. Mainly for watching videos and writing assignments.

As for if it is Windows 7 compatible, I would assume it is. I don’t have much of a way to know for sure though.

If you push your budget a little you can run some light to medium games and stream HD videos, I would recommend This Acer Aspire E 15 mainly because it comes with (1920 x 1080 resolution) which is the best you can get for such a low budget and recommended for watching videos/movies or even reading text a lot so it wouldn’t put strain on your eyes, 4GB of ram (which is not enough, I would recommend making it 8 GB if you need to or if you have enough budget for it to get smooth multi tasking), 1 TB of HDD for storage, Intel HD 620 which is the best and latest iGPU you can get for this budget and just might be powerful enough to play some main stream games like Overwatch on low with 30+ FPs, Battlefield Hardline, LoL, WoW, Battlefield 4 all on low and it is really great value for the price.

I am sorry but 300 won’t get near Fallout 4, even on low, if you push your budget a little you **might** be able to play Fallout New Vegas on low, if you want to try then I would recommend This Acer Aspire E 15 mainly because it comes with (1920 x 1080 resolution) which is the best you can get for such a low budget and recommended for watching videos/movies or even reading text a lot so it wouldn’t put strain on your eyes, 4GB of ram (which is not enough, I would recommend making it 8 GB if you need to or if you have enough budget for it to get smooth multi tasking), 1 TB of HDD for storage, Intel HD 620 which is the best and latest iGPU you can get for this budget and just might be powerful enough to play Fallout New Vegas on low, but it is also powerful enough to play other main stream gamers like Overwatch on low with 30+ FPs, Battlefield Hardline, LoL, WoW, Battlefield 4 all on low and it is really great value for the price.

When you say keep costs low, what kind of budget are you looking at?

One of the best value laptops for cheap in my opinion is the Acer E15 for $330. It has a Kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram, and a 1TB HDD. It has intel HD 620 graphics which can easily play league of legends and slightly more demanding games. It also has an incredibly long battery life (advertised up to 12 hours), a 1080p display, and a backlit keyboard.

If you can, my best suggestion would be to push your budget a bit for something like the Acer E15 for $330. It is probably one of your more powerful options in the price range with a new Kaby lake i3 processor, 4gb of ram, and a 1TB HDD. It also has an incredibly long battery life (advertised up to 12 hours), a 1080p display, and a backlit keyboard.

Otherwise maybe look into the Acer ES 15 for $300. Its a similar model but with a skylake i5 processor, 4gb of ram, and a 1TB HDD. This model also only has a 720p display, and a battery life advertised up to 6.5 hours.

Or this Acer Aspire E because it comes with somewhat powerful GPU (940MX) which will be more than enough for any light gaming such as WOW or LOL and 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, Good SSD storage (256GB) for faster booting and and overall performance , 15.6-inch Full HD Display which has the right resolution but not IPS, and it has very good battery life, and within budget

BLACK FRIDAY Laptop Recommendations - Gaming Laptops

The Acer E15 for $330 will be able to play Rocket league just fine and may be the minimum I would recommend. Here is a video of it being run with low settings and still getting 65-70 FPS with the same HD 620 graphics card: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jA84GSONFI – I would expect identical performance.

More info here if you’re confused about specs. Should help a lot.

Really at this budget point, the best thing to get would be this. The integrated graphics in it is probably the best thing you’ll find at $350, and it also has a 1080p display (more pixels). A steal for the money if you ask me; worth spending a little more for.

Gonna try my hand at translating what you wrote to grandma-speak.

I would recommend this Acer Aspire E 15 mainly because it comes with a HD screen (1920×1080 pixels) which is the best you can get for such a low budget, and recommended for watching movies/Netflix/Hulu as well as making videos.

It also comes with Intel HD Graphics 620 which is again one of the best integrated graphics cards (essentially, that means it’s “the best of the worst” for gaming) that is currently available and should be able to run light gaming like minecraft with ease on high settings and Civilization (the newest one, 6, I assume) on low to medium settings.

Lastly, it has 4 GB of ram (which is not enough, I would recommend upgrading it to 8 GB once you have enough budget, to help with multi tasking), 1 TB HDD for storage, and it is really great value.

It wouldn’t be bad to have a full HD display. Hard to find for under $300. This Acer Aspire E5-575-33BM though wouldn’t be a bad choice. Just a few bucks over $300.

If you don’t mind a lower res display, then this Dell Inspiron 15 i3558-0954BLK would be a decent choice. It will sell for under $300 on BF.

I’d go with neither.

If you can spend some more, go with this. Easily the best value.

Or, if she is just sticking inside Chrome, check out a Chromebook. I’d go with an Acer Chromebook 14.

Inexpensive and durable?

Posted on: October 31, 2016 by LonerIM2

Since budget is a concern I would suggest this Acer Aspire E because it comes with CPU powerful enough for your usage and your family’s,
15.6″ Full HD(1920*1080) which is great for watching videos (I wouldn’t recommend any less), 1TB 5400RPM HDD more than enough storage for you, Up to 12-hours Battery Life , but if you do decide to get it I would recommend you add another 4GB DDR4 for faster and better multitasking.

If you prefer multitasking without having to play with the device, then I would suggest this HP Notebook because it has more ram, slightly better CPU, and still over great value for money.

This laptop is a great option, my only problem with it that it comes with only 4 GB of ram, I would recommend getting another 4 GB RAM minimum for better experience.

Another good option is this Lenovo Premium it comes with similar specs and double the Ram, the issue is its screen resolution only 1366 x 768
