u/Aka_BigGrig Since you didn’t prioritize battery life or weight then I would recommend This acer vx 15 because it comes with everything you need , i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, decent battery life, 1050Ti GPU which should be able to run most modern games very well, it is very silent (I am using it right now and at first I thought the fans are not even running), and it is within your budget.

I personally bought that config for me, so if you have any questions let me know ;), there is also the config with i7 quad core CPU, I would recommend that if you are going to do any video editing otherwise it is not worth it IMO.

Or you can get this acer because it comes with 1060 GPU which is a more powerful GPU.

Best Budget Gaming Laptop

Posted on: June 20, 2017 by Michiganders

I would suggest the Acer Aspire 15 for $900. This has an intel kaby lake i5 processor, 16GB ram, 256GB SSD, and a GTX 1050Ti graphics card (note: I wouldn’t really go with anything less than this card). This is a 15.6″ 1080p IPS display with a solid build quality.

For more suggestions or a better idea of what to look for, maybe look through my comprehensive list here.

Looking for a decent laptop for school (Architecture Major) that is <1200$

Posted on: June 20, 2017 by Michiganders

Games like WoW and most engineering software in school really is not very demanding and you would definitely be fine budgeting a bit. If you’re planning to keep it for 3 or 4 years, it may be worth finding a good middle range laptop. Something with a GTX 1050 or 1050Ti would likely be perfect.

Maybe look into the Acer Aspire VX15 for $900. It’s a great value middle tier gaming laptop that is a full package with great specs and a good build quality for its price. It comes with a kaby lake i7 quad core processor, 16gb of ram, 256gb SSD and a GTX 1050 Ti dGPU. It also has another storage slot inside to increase storage in the future if you desire. It has a pretty good 6 hour battery, and a 1080p display.

There are also several good options under 1k, there is the acer VX 15, and the Lenovo Y520 both come with i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 (or 16 on the acer) GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1050Ti GPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget. Or the Clevo N850HK1 if you are looking for an HDD +SSD or a more powerful CPU.

If you want more detailed review of them you can check my post about that.

For a little over 1000 there are several good options, this would be your best option hands down because it offers great of value and since it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1060 GPU for your games which is very hard to find at this price point, and it is within your budget.

There are several good options under 1k, I would recommend either the acer VX 15, the Lenovo Y520 both come with i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 (or 16 on the acer) GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1050Ti GPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget. Or the Clevo N850HK1 if you are looking for an HDD +SSD or a more powerful CPU.

[USA] 800-900$ or less gaming laptop

If you can, I would suggest trying to get the model of the Acer VX15 with the GTX 1050Ti as it’s only $100 more. The 1050Ti is around 40% more powerful than the GTX 1050 without using too much more power, so the battery life will be similar. If you’re planning on using this laptop for future game releases the upgraded GPU may be worth it.

You will certainly find this video helpful in your search: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxwMlYMMSnI

I think your best option is probably something like the Acer VX15 for $900. It comes with a GTX 1050Ti which should suite your needs well and will be able to play modern games well for years to come. It also has top of the line specs, a full 1080p IPS display, and an okay battery life.

For more suggestions to get a better idea of what you’re looking for, you can look at my comprehensive list of recommendations here.

If you can push your budget a little and get a 1050Ti, and an IPS screen, the acer VX 15, and the Lenovo Y520 are good competition?

Hi,

So basically I went on my search tool and set the parameters you wrote above. Here are the results.

I would avoid the Pavilion even though it looks good on paper. I just don’t trust its build quality and cooling solution, although it might be ok for some light usage. The Acer VX5 is better quality and I would take over the HP. However, the best you can get in this class in terms of battery life and build quality is the Dell Inspiron 7567, but it will cost you more.

If you want to save some money, take /u/shopineer offer for the 7559. It’s basically the older version of the 7567.

Instead of that i would recommend you this one Acer VX 15

i5-7300HQ
16GB DDR4 RAM
256GB SSD
Windows 10 OS
15.6 inch FHD display
4GB Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti GPU….
reason why i am recommending this is that it comes with better GPU with more VRAM and RAM + SSD instead of HDD… if you are willing to add more storage in future you can easily upgrade it

Gaming laptop for roughly $1000 usd?

I got this acer for myself, aside from different keyboard setup and the slight heating under intense gaming I love it 🙂

[NEWS] Acer Predator Helios 300 is now available on Amazon (not sure on back order or on pre order) comes with Intel Core i7, GeForce GTX 1060, 15.6" Full HD, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD for a 1100

Posted on: May 7, 2017 by LonerIM2

Think of it as pre order 😀 I am seriously considering it since my Acer VX is taking forever to ship and if the news are true and the laptop will sell for 1200~1400 range (makes much more sense giving the specs and the better build quality) I would consider it a great way to save a couple of 100s.

Well you can search online for coupons, I found a valid one but they said it didn’t apply to my purchase (I had the laptop in the cart), other options at 900 are the Acer VX 15 which is very similar to the Dell.

[US] investigating different options for a 15.6" gaming laptop, $1100 limit but would really prefer under $900

Asus - 2-in-1 15.6" 4K UHD Touch-Screen Laptop - Is this a good buy for $900?

If you want a 2-in-1, then yeah. Otherwise you could get something way more powerful.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Gaming-GeForce-VX5-591G-54VG/dp/B01MR82G0W/

Would perform far better in games. It’s just a bit thicker and heavier. And a 1050 Ti wouldn’t be bad if you want to play the new Total War: Warhammer on higher settings.

Which would you choose?

Posted on: March 30, 2017 by edit1754

The K501UW uses a low quality TN panel, and the ZX53VW uses one of the nicer IPS panels. IMO this is a noticeable difference, and would pick the ZX53VW out of those two.

The GL62M uses a much better GPU. It seems to use a decent TN panel (viewing angles and contrast stability are a lot more reminiscent of older good TN 1080p laptop displays like the Lenovo Y510p and Dell L502x), but I’m not sure if MSI deliberately uses a better panel in this one, or if it’s a panel lottery, since the Hardware ID of the panel seems to be the identical to other laptops listing the “eDP Vivid Color 94%” spec, with poor TN panels.

If it’s not a chance you want to take, this (select Windows under OS) is a GTX 1050 Ti laptop known to use a good display. Same for this. Though if your GL62M *does* come with a good TN display, it may very well have better colors than the one in at least the Acer.

ASUS ROG Strix GL553 (Opinion please)

Posted on: March 29, 2017 by edit1754

I’d say it’s a pretty good option for the price. NVIDIA GTX 1050 and a good display (IPS, 72% NTSC gamut)

More options:

Acer VX5-591G (GTX 1050 Ti, Display isn’t *quite* as good since the color gamut is only 45% NTSC, but it’s still IPS and has good contrast and viewing angles)
Sager NP6852 / Clevo N850HK1 (GTX 1050 Ti, I *think* the display is 72% NTSC, but verify with Sager if before ordering if you do indeed want the better colors).

I’ll also mention that I advise against the Dell Inspiron 7567, in case it comes up in your searches. The performance specs are similar but it uses a very low quality TN panel. Comparison: https://i.imgur.com/Sajajqc.jpg

General use 15inch laptop with light gaming/video editing, USA, Sub-$1000

Since your budget allows it I would recommend this config of Acer Aspire VX 15 because it comes with the more powerful 1050Ti GPU, and double the ram, which is worth the extra 100 so it would “future prof” your laptop a little more and enhance your gaming experience.

Laptop with dedicated graphic card, SSD and good battery life

Posted on: March 20, 2017 by LonerIM2

I would recommend this Acer Aspire VX 15 because it comes with everything you need , i5 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for gaming, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good battery life, 1050 Ti GPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget.

The one you linked used to be recommended often but the 960M GPU is way too weak for the budget right now as much more powerful options are available.

OP has the budget for the model with the GTX 1050 Ti:

https://www.amazon.ca/Acer-NH-GM4AA-004-VX5-591G-54VG-i5-7300HQ-Bilingual/dp/B01MR82G0W

Posted on: February 27, 2017 by SaneBRZ

Desktop GTX 750 Ti = more or less a mobile GTX 960M.

Though I would suggest to get something with a Nvidia GTX 1050 or GTX 1050 Ti. Such laptops would be within your budget:

* Acer Aspire VX5-591G-54VG with an i5 quad core + GTX 1050 Ti for $1299 (not released yet)
* Acer Aspire VX5-591G-5652 with an i5 quad core + GTX 1050 for $1199 (not released yet)
* Asus ROG GL753VD-DS71 with an i7 quad core + GTX 1050 for $1299

But it you don’t want to spend that much, then this laptop will also do it:
