Thanks for the input. I’ve seen that one. Was my first pick.
But after reading several bad reviews i looked elsewhere.
I also looked at the Helios, same thing..
It seems the Acer QC is not that good, imo.

You say for PUBG you prefer 1050 ti over 1060 3gb?

Laptop for Sound Engineering

I would recommend either this Acer vx 15 because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1050Ti GPU, and it is within your budget.

Need a laptop to replace my macbook and use for gaming and basic word/excel in college.

If you are looking for a gaming laptop then I would recommend either this Acer vx 15 because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage(if you want to save some money there is the 900 version with i5 cpu that should still be powerful enough for your usage), 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1050Ti GPU for your gaming like you wanted and it is within your budget.

or even this Acer 300 for a better GPU (1060) for slighlty more but still within your budget.

The Lenovo Legion Y520 is another great option, I actually made a comparsion post between it, the acer, and other options I would recommend that you check it out before you buy either of them.

Any pointers to a decently powerful and portable laptop? $1,100USD, No Bigger than 14-inches

Posted on: August 4, 2017 by LonerIM2

How important is the screen size for you ? I think you need 15.6 inch laptop to be able to play Rainbow Six:Siege on medium with 60 FPS and to get a quad core, getting a 13.3 or 14 inch laptop that is powerful enough for that would be very hard, unless you can push your budget with few 100s , if you can’t push it then I would recommend either this Acer vx 15 because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage(if you want to save some money there is the 900 version with i5 cpu that should still be powerful enough for your usage), 16 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1050Ti GPU for your gaming like you wanted and it is within your budget.

Gaming laptop USA $1200 (preferably around $1000), 15.6

Posted on: August 1, 2017 by Michiganders

The Acer Aspire VX 15 for $1000 would be a good option for you. It has an Intel Kaby Lake i7-7700HQ processor, 16gb ram, 256gb SSD, and a GTX 1050 Ti dGPU which will be great for playing tons of games. The display is a 15.6″ 1080p IPS display, weighing 5.5 lbs, with a 6 hr advertised battery life. Overall its a higher end option with quad core i7 processor.

If you wanted a more sleek design, the Asus VivoBook M580VD for $1050 is another option with a dual HDD + SSD setup if you have a larger gaming library.

If you’re looking for more suggestions or are interested in getting a better idea of options on the market, I suggest taking a look at my Laptop Suggestion Guide. Best of luck!

Better laptop than this one for the price?

Posted on: August 1, 2017 by Michiganders

Another option to consider at $1000 is the Acer Aspire VX 15 with a slight improvement to the i7 Kaby Lake i7-7700HQ processor, double the ram to 16gb ram, the same 256gb SSD, and the same GTX 1050 Ti dGPU. I think they are both good options with IPS displays with similar weight and battery.

If you’re looking for more suggestions or are interested in getting a better idea of options on the market, I suggest taking a look at my Laptop Suggestion Guide. Best of luck!

Is there anything better or comparable for this price? Eluktronics N850HJ

Posted on: June 19, 2017 by camelcamelcameltoe

This one has the same specs, except it has a GTX 1050Ti 4GB and it’s the same price, plus it’s a more well known brand (Acer). https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N12YZ7B/

Nothing against Eluktronics, they use Clevo platforms to build their laptops, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about Clevo.

If you want to go up $50, you could get this one with a 6GB GTX 1060. This upgrade is a great way to spend $50. If you plan to game on it long term, you’ll kick yourself later if you don’t get this one considering the small price difference. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/

Laptop for Music Production (USA, 13-15, 1000-1500)

Posted on: June 13, 2017 by elvinelmo

The **Acer Aspire VX 15 ** is a good choice for music production

* 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ Processor (Up to 3.8GHz)
* 15.6″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) widescreen IPS display
* NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM

This laptops also comes with a GTX 1050Ti graphics card (not needed but it cant hurt). You also get an IPS display which gives you wide vewing angles for a good price

But if you’re looking for more RAM, I might just go with this option.

Okay, so I’d cross out the Lenovo since you said you’re concerned about battery life.

If you’re looking for the best battery life though, that Dell Inspiron is probably what you’re looking for.

If it is then would you be ok with low settings slowish fps on overwatch ? something like this? if you are then let me know and I will recommend some good options for that as well.

I agree that this acer has great specs for the price, but I would recommend this Eluktronics-N850HK1 because it comes with better build quality that can last you as long as your older Mack and it still comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for gaming, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good heat management, 1050Ti GPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget

In that budget, you have some pretty decent options that certainly will play the three games you mentioned very well. This Acer Aspire VX 15 Gaming Laptop would be a very nice pick.. It has a new and powerful 7th Gen Intel Core i7 quad core processor, Solid NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti dedicated graphics card , a nice 15.6 Full HDIPS display, 16GB DDR4 and a fast 256GB SSD. It also has a decent build quality and good cooling system. It also has a nice crunchy backlit keyboard that you will be quite elated with. The storage can always be upgraded by adding a Hard drive or another SSD to it’s empty bay.

Good power for the price, comfortable lap size (I’m using the dell right now), and you can solidly play most games at mid-high settings without roasting your legs.

Take a look at the:

Acer Aspire VX 15 Gaming Laptop, 7th Gen Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 15.6 Full HD, 16GB DDR4, 256GB SSD

The 1050ti on there is more than enough for any of those games, the only downside is you’ll probably have to add a HDD to it since it only ships with a 256gb SSD.

If you didnt want to do the extra work take a look at

Really solid reviews and build quality, based off Clevo models. Very underrated laptops, this probably works out for you a lot better as well.

Dell Inspiron 7567 or Acer VX 15?

Posted on: March 13, 2017 by LonerIM2

Out of the two this would be my suggestion no doubt, but if you can push your budget a little then this GL502VM while on sale is a much better and more powerful option because it comes with the much more powerful GPU 1060 which will “future prof” your laptop more and more ram as well.

Which laptop between these 3?

Posted on: March 13, 2017 by DaZolo

The ASUS laptop from iBUYPOWER is the most powerful, but it also costs the most. If you are willing to buy it, that’s what I’d recommend, but if you want to cut the cost a bit, the Acer Aspire VX 15 would be my choice.

The reason I’d recommend this as a budget option over the two that you provided is because one has a 960M which is quite old and underpowered for the cost, and the other (The Dell Inspiron 15 7567) has a terrible screen especially when compared to the VX 15, less RAM, which is helpful for game development like your cousin is doing and it has an i5 7300HQ while the VX 15 has an i7 7700HQ.

EDIT: I read your post too quick and thought you were buying for your cousin…

Here I have done s *full review of this laptop* after using it. It ticks just about all your boxes, will run those games you mentioned, excellently and of course, will do a great job at video editing.

Posted on: March 3, 2017 by The---Technician

In that budget range and for the purpose you will be using it for especially that video editing that takes a powerful processor, RAM and of course,a solid graphics card, I would definitely say, so for this Acer Aspire VX 15 which has a powerful and new 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad core Processor, 16 GB RAM, a fast 256 GB SSD, and a solid gtx 1050ti graphics card..It also has a nice IPS display, good cooling and decent build quality. The next laptop I would recommend is this **Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro** which is wonderful, but the Acer edges it out with 16 GB RAM vs it’s 8 GB RAM and which is crucial for video editing.

Law School/Gaming $1300 Budget in the US

Posted on: February 23, 2017 by AOCPS

I’d recommend the Acer VX15 laptop. The Acer VX15 is the best gaming laptop I’ve ever owned, and guess what? It’s only $1,000! The Acer VX15 includes a Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, a bright and vibrant 1080p IPS matte display, a Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti that you can overclock, and a 256 GB SSD which is 40 times faster than the Eluktronics’s 1 TB HDD. Plus, it only weighs 5.3 pounds.

USA, Gaming - Commuter laptop, $800-1400

Posted on: February 23, 2017 by AOCPS

Ok. This computer will blow your mind at $1,000. The Acer VX15 is an excellent gaming laptop that looks like a professional laptop but comes with all of the desktop goodies that are in a gaming desktop tower. This is also slightly worse than the ROG Strix that the Technician posted, but the Acer VX15 is way better of a deal than that ASUS computer.

The Acer VX15 has a powerful brand new 2017 edition Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, a Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti card (overclocking the 1050 Ti may make it run faster than the 1060), a gorgeous 15.6″ IPS display that is 1080p, & a 256 GB SSD that can be replaced. This gaming laptop has better of a deal than the ASUS ROG laptop because the ASUS ROG comes with a slow regular hard drive, and only has last-generation RAM. Here’s the Amazon link for the Acer VX15: https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Gaming-GeForce-VX5-591G-75RM/dp/B01N12YZ7B/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487822037&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+vx15

I got $1300 to spend on a laptop. Tell me how to spend my money.

Posted on: February 23, 2017 by AOCPS

The Acer VX15 is an excellent gaming laptop that comes with a desktop-grade Nvidia graphics card. Yes, this laptop is probably overkill for you, but it weighs less than 5.5 pounds. It has an Intel Core i7-7700HQ, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, 256 GB of SSD storage, a bright and vibrant 1080p IPS matte display, and all of the ports you need. Plus, it doesn’t look like some Alienware laptop either. I don’t recommend Eluktronics laptops because their quality is subpar. Acer however is a trusted brand, and they’re really good at gaming machines nowadays. But still, the VX15 doesn’t look like a gaming laptop, and weighs like nothing, but still has amazing specs for the price. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Gaming-GeForce-VX5-591G-75RM/dp/B01N12YZ7B/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487821059&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+vx15

Also, the stock drive on the Acer VX15 is way faster than the Eluktronics one, and the i7 on the Acer is the new 2017 Kaby Lake processor, whereas the technology on the Eluktronics one is one year old.

Laptop for School $700-$1,000 USA

Posted on: February 23, 2017 by The---Technician

For under $1000, my top recommendation in terms of power (specs for you money) would be this Acer Aspire VX 15 Gaming Laptop which has a great i7 kaby lake quad core processor, 16 GB RAM, fast 256 GB SSD and a powerful gtx 1050TI dedicated graphics card.. But I am not sure you would like it’s appearance for your school setting..Otherwise, go for this CUK HP Pavilion 15 Gaming Notebook which is also a very nice pick.

A good budget gaming laptop?

Posted on: February 22, 2017 by AOCPS

I’d recommend the Acer VX15. It’s an excellent gaming laptop for $1,000 (USD) and houses high-end specs that are in laptops that cost around $1,500.

The VX15 includes the following:
-Intel Core i7-7700HQ
-Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
-16 GB DDR4 RAM
-256 GB SATA 3 SSD
-1080p matte non-touch IPS screen
-Windows 10 Home

15"+ laptop for music production, general use; USA purchase; $1000-$1500 ?

Posted on: February 22, 2017 by AOCPS

The Acer VX15 is a 15-inch laptop that will give you amazing video editing performance with a vibrant screen and a graphics card that will game at 1080p on high settings 60+ FPS.

The Acer VX15 has the following:
– Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor
– Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card
– 16 GB DDR4 (Removable)
– 256 GB SSD (Removable), additional bay for another hard drive
– 1080p IPS screen (matte, non-touch)

Price: $1,000
Weight: 5.5 pounds

Usually, these specs would cost around $1,500 for a heavy computer with a slow hard drive, and would cost at least $2,000 for an ultraportable with a slow hard drive (cough XPS 15 cough). This Acer VX15 is just PERFECT for the price tag it comes with.

Here’s the link for the laptop:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Gaming-GeForce-VX5-591G-75RM/dp/B01N12YZ7B/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487731463&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+vx15

Best laptop for school and csgo

Posted on: February 22, 2017 by AOCPS

The Acer VX15 is a 15-inch laptop that has gaming specs for only $1,000. Yes, this is $200 over your limit, but it has a long lasting battery that will last at least 8 hours with regular use, & 5 hours when playing CS:GO nonstop.

The Acer VX15 includes the following:

– Desktop grade Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti graphics card (will get you 100+ FPS on medium settings on 1080p, if overclocked maybe 100+ FPS on high settings on 1080p)
– Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor
– Bright & vivd (graphic designer grade) 1080p IPS screen (the fact that it’s IPS is excellent, Lenovo laptops have rubbish TN panels like the Ideapad 700, and same with Dell laptops & HP laptops).
– Blazing fast 256 GB SSD (can download a 1.5 hour movie around 3 minutes, there’s another drive bay to add additional storage up to 2 TB)
– 16 GB of DDR4 RAM (can get up to around 80 tabs on Chrome no problem)
– Dolby Audio Premium Sound
– Keyboard is made of metal and is backlit
– Contains the following ports: HDMI 2.0, USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, USB-C, Ethernet (only goes up to 100 MB which is still blazing fast), SD card reader, & headphone/mic combo jack

Even ultraportables like the Dell XPS 15 have a slow hard drive that takes around 45 minutes to download a 1.5 hour movie, and 13-inch ultraportables simply don’t have the horsepower to play CS:GO. Also, the Acer VX15 resembles an ultraportable, and only weighs ~5 pounds.

Here’s the link for the Acer VX15:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Gaming-GeForce-VX5-591G-75RM/dp/B01N12YZ7B/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487731463&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+vx15

I think Apple lost it, considering to move away from Apple after 10+ years

Posted on: February 22, 2017 by AOCPS

Well, this gaming laptop has the best bang for you buck. The Acer VX15 may only cost $1,000 (USD), but it has similar specs and a better screen than the Dell XPS 15 (except for the 4K option). The VX15 includes the following:
– 1080p IPS panel (matte, non-touch)
– 720p webcam with HD voice microphone (HD voice removes any sound background like a fire alarm and quiets those sounds so video chatting has higher quality)
– Intel Core i7-7700HQ (this is just as fast as the new 2017 XPS 15)
– 256 GB SSD (this is faster than the 1 TB slow hard drive that is found on the XPS 15)
– 16 GB of DDR4 RAM
– Nvidia 1050 Ti (this is just as good as the 1060 when overclocked, the Acer VX15 has really good fans so there’s no worry of overheating)
– Ethernet port (extremely important when uploading videos or content in general to an online website like YouTube)
– Backlit keyboard with number pad

For similar specs (except the SSD, the XPS 15 has the 1 TB hard drive), the XPS 15 would cost $2,100. Yes, the Acer VX15 isn’t an ultraportable computer at 5 pounds, but it’s only 0.25 inches thicker than the XPS 15 and costs over $1,000!

Here’s the link off of Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Gaming-GeForce-VX5-591G-75RM/dp/B01N12YZ7B/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1487731463&sr=1-1&keywords=acer+vx15

Looking for Gaming Laptop (Desktop replacement) Under $2000 17.3+ Pref (USA)

This is the Acer VX15 laptop, that only costs $1000. With that, you get the following:

– 15.6″ Full-HD (1080p) IPS screen that can be used for gaming and still looks good enough for video editing with TRUE COLORS (glossy displays oversaturate the colors on video profiles, so a matte display which is on this laptop suits perfectly for you)

– Intel Core i7-7700HQ at 3.8 GHz

– REPLACEABLE 16 GB DDR4 RAM (faster than most workstations and gaming laptops, max RAM supported is 32 GB, but MUST BE DDR4)

– Nvidia Geforce 1050 Ti Graphics Card (can easily to 60+ FPS on 1080p on high settings for games when overclocked, overclocking this card is also helpful when doing video editing)

– Weighs less than 6 pounds 😀

– REPLACEABLE 256 GB SSD (M.2, btw)

– Ports: DC port for charging, USB 2, combo headphone/mic jack, SD card reader (the SD card goes all the way in btw), USB-C Gen 3.1 port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, HDMI 2, Ethernet port (goes up to 100 MB, not Gigabit)

You probably will have trouble fitting a 17.3″ laptop in your bag, and 17.3″ laptops are heavy, loud, and are expensive.

Need help buying laptop

Posted on: February 22, 2017 by AOCPS

So your criteria is quite possible to achieve, except for that 13.3 inch form factor you require. The only good 13.3 inch computer for gaming is the Dell Alienware 13, which starts at $1000, but weights between 5 to 6 pounds depending on what type of graphics card you want with it.

Currently, there are no 13.3 inch gaming laptops that are under $850, but the best bang for you buck is the Acer VX15 on Amazon (btw not sponsored by Acer). It has a 15.6 inch 1080p IPS display (so no garbage TN panel here like the Ideapad 710S), has a 7th gen Intel Core i7-7700HQ (this is 4 times faster than the Ideapad 710S), has 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, has 256 GB of fast SSD storage (500 MB read, 300 MB write), and has an overclockable GTX 1050 Ti card, which is over 2 times faster than the Intel Iris 540. And it also weighs around 5 pounds. To round it off, it only costs $1000.

No AMD mobile graphics card can compare to Nvidia’s 1050 Ti, and when combined with that i7 processor, the Acer VX15 will run WAY FASTER than the Lenovo Ideapad laptops. Even the AMD card on the $2400 MacBook Pro is worse than the 1050 Ti.

Below is a link for the Acer VX15 laptop (and plus it doesn’t look like a gaming laptop, it looks like an ultraportable to me):
