I would recommend the Dell Inspiron i7559 because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD screen which is a must have for this price range, long battery life, GPU that should be able to handle your wife’s programs, and it is within your budget.

Here is a more detailed review of it:

Easily upgradeable, remove a panel at the bottom and you will have access to the storage and ram bays, Keyboard is comfortable to use, comes backlit with 2 levels or brightness, trackpad is okay, you can mis click if you are not used to it, Speakers are also above average, minimal bloat-ware, nothing major, great heat management, even with intensive gaming, The fans are also quiet, you can only hear them (slightly) when under intensive gaming, it is made from plastic, but it feels sturdy, you can open the laptop with ease, screen is IPS which is great for the price, The battery is the main selling point for this laptop as it can go from 5-7 hours with moderate usage.

* If you want it you will need to click the used & new.

What to value more ? better battery life or better “future prof” ? if you prefer battery life then I would recommend this Dell Here is a more detailed review of it:

If you want something more powerful with weaker battery life then I would recommend This acer vx 15 or this configuration for a 100 more mainly because of double the ram and more powerful 1050Ti GPU.

Instead of those, you may want something with a quad-core CPU (ix-xxxx**HQ**).

Are gaming laptops overkill for software development (non-gaming)?

Posted on: May 11, 2017 by Reddit1396

I’m almost exactly on the same situation as OP, except my budget is around $700-800 and in addition to software dev I want to use it for music production. My gaming needs are even lighter than OP’s (Nintendo emulators, lowend). What would you recommend in this price range?

I’m currently looking at this Dell Inspiron with Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz
($728), this Ideapad Y700 with AMD A10-8700P 1.80GHz 2MB,
($680, I think it’s in clearance) and the Legion Y520, which depending on the customization (whether I choose i5-7300HQ 2.50 GHz 2400MHz 6 MB or Intel Core i7-7700HQ 6MB Cache, up to 3.80 GHz, an SSD or not, a hard drive or not) can cost $717, $795 or more.

Thanks for reading.

I can see from the comments that you care a lot about battery life, what about this Dell Inspirion specs would take a hit (especially in the GPU) but it has better battery life than most gaming laptops out there.

I have the i5 version of this laptop, and it plays Overwatch without a hitch. Also play GTA V, and even some more intensive games such as Dishonored 2 and Dark Souls 3 with minor hiccups here and there. Overwatch and League however can be played at pretty much max or close to max settings with a steady 60 FPS at 1080p. Been using it a bit over a year with no problems, however the original motherboard shipped with it died in about a month and had to be fixed under warranty. Other than that I love it, and the i7 version should be much more capable than my measly i5, especially for video editing. It also only uses the 960M when gaming and switches to a less power hungry intel integrated graphics, so when not gaming the battery life is upwards of 5 hours on idle.

Is the Dell i7567 really as bad as people say it is

Posted on: March 30, 2017 by JackGallian

Having tried it just last week (friend picked it up), the screen really is that bad.

The closest options in price and specs to that are the Eluktronics N850HK1 (was $900 USD, now $1000 USD – so around $1300 CAD) or the i7559 with a worse graphics card.

Unless you go for the 4k screen or plan to replace it with an IPS panel (not even sure this can be done for that model), I would avoid it like the plague.

Upgrade old E6420 with 1TB SSD or buy a new laptop that comes with a 1TB SSD?

Posted on: March 26, 2017 by The---Technician

I would recommend you go with a new laptop with the 1TB SSD or even better, get a laptop with a regular HDD and an empty slot for an SSD. I would get this Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK plus this awesome Samsung 850 EVO 1TB 2.5-Inch SATA which would see you having over 2000 GB storage space in total and spending nowhere near that $1500.

Laptop for email, heavy MS office use, with decent Cad capability. Must be very portable and lightweight because. Around 700 Eur budget.

Posted on: March 22, 2017 by IanPPK

For £700, that might be hard to get with full-on future proofing and being lightweight. There’s a Dell laptop that sells for about $800 in the US on Amazon that I’ll link. It’s not super light, but you won’t get decent CAD functionality without a 940m at least and more sturdily a 960m.

The Dell was actually more expensive on Amazon.de than the US site.

ASUS: https://www.amazon.de/gp/aw/d/B01BF0OMKM/

It doesn’t specify whether it uses the 2GB or 4GB version of the 960m, but it has an overall positive rating with what reviews it has. If you’re able to purchase from. U.S. Amazon, the link to the Dell is

[US] Portable 15.6" college laptop with very light gaming (Under $800 budget)

Dark souls 1 doesn’t need much GPU power, so I would recommend this Acer Swift 5 because it comes with everything you need, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, very good battery life, 620 HD iGPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on medium to high settings with very good FPs, very light at 2.87 lbs and it is within your budget.

If you want something with more powerful and 15.6 screen then I would recommend this Dell-Inspiron because it comes with everything you need , i7 quad core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for gaming, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD screen which is a must have for this price range, very good battery life, much more powerful GPU, but also much heavier almost double the weight at 5.7 lbs and it is within your budget

You need to be realistic about your options. At your price range, you’re looking at the low end business grade laptops. From outlets.

Also, with your budget, if you’re going the gaming route, you’re probably looking at 60fps on low to medium settings.

Maybe something like this Dell Inspiron

Best laptops to buy from Amazon.com, NewEgg.com, NewEgg.ca for gaming, college/ultrabook, general usage laptops.

Posted on: February 20, 2017 by OlegRu

The Inspiron (your recommendation) is definitely a tempting buy as it is powerful CPU/GPU-wise, seems to be built quite solidly, cooling system seems nice and so does the display, large amount of storage and the 8gb SSD to speed up loading, not very bulky and allegedly 4.6 lbs (though I’ve read that ppl say it is actually above 5 hmm…).

At the same time, I really fell in love with that ASUS ZenBook you linked to – the build/size/portability/battery seems so comfortable – if only I could find something like that, with the 13.3″ and all and with a decent dGPU, that would be perfect…

On a side note, what do you think of this ASUS K501UW-AB78 15.6″ vs. the Inspiron?

here it is on HD 520 you should expect better performance on the 620, I am recommending the Acer based on your 400 budget, but if you can push your budget to 800 then Definitely the 960M is going to be better for gaming and in this case this would be my recommendation since it is within budget and has 960M GPU for better gaming performance and very good battery life for a “gaming “laptop.

It’s been fluctuating in price today, dropped $25, but not really too much going on, I think $800 is decent on it. Great i7 quad core processor and 960M will run what you want. Down the line. an upgrade to the SSD would be ideal.

Thanks so much for the help everyone! You’ve been able to narrow it down to two options, this HP Pavilion Power Laptop – 15t, or this Dell Inspiron i7559.

My question now is whether or not you think it’s worth the extra $200 to upgrade from the i5 to the i7 with an 8GB SSD included. Two of you linked the same HP laptop but a lot of you mentioned the benefits of having the i7 over the i5 as well. 8GB is plenty for the SSD because I would probably really only use it for booting Windows. I know it’s really about what I need and what I can afford but I’d like to hear your opinions if you have any!

EDIT: I’ve read some reviews on both laptops and it seems like the Dell is a bit more fragile or flimsy and has issues with its WiFi drivers among others. The HP on the other hand has a touchscreen which I’m not likely to use, comes with a bunch of bloatware (which I can just uninstall but still), and has a less impressive screen. Both of them collect fingerprints which is kind of lame but not a deciding factor by any means especially since they both have that issue.

Since you will be using this for college as well then I would recommend this Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK mainly because it comes with great battery life which is needed if you will use it throughout the day, and it comes with the specs you need, it comes with Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ which is one of the best in the market and great gaming, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, Full HD screen which is a must have for this price range, 960M GPU that should be able to handle modern games on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget.

Or if battery is not a concern I would suggest this MSI GL62M 7RD-256 because it comes with a weaker CPU but a more powerful GPU for your games performance.

I would recommend the **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7 which is better than the one on the Toshiba, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games.

Now I know this is over budget, but this is just a baller laptop.you can play GTA V at high 60fps. Also theres the upcoming 800 dollar 1050 version of this laptop, which is just mind blowing.

Even though this is a gaming laptop, it has killer battery for one.with a 84 whr battery(double the size of the normal 40 whr average) it can last above 5 hours on light browsing and note taking usage.

Although it is a bit heavy, and if you can find a good and cheap chromebook, a 500 dollar desktop would get you a 1050, if you squeeze real tight

Or this Lenovo Ideapad 700 because it comes with quad core i5-6300HQ which is one of the best in the market and overpowered for your usage (but too much power is better than not enough power), 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good quality 15.6 full HD IPS screen which is great screen for this price point (usually found on mid 700 laptops), with 1 Year Warranty, 1TB of HDD for storage (you can add SSD later), 950M GPU which is powerful enough to run maplestory, league of legends on high to ultra settings and it is within your budget.
Or the Acer Aspire E 15 because it comes with 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD screen which is a must have for this price range, very good battery life, GPU that should be able to handle the games you mentioned on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is the lowest I would go for your budget

What do you think of this [Dell (either version)] (https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-2512BLK-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ0J6) or the new [Inspiron 15 7000 for $800] (http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/inspiron-15-7567-laptop?~ck=bt)? How do you think these compare to the ASUS you linked?

This **Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK** would do a decent job for you. It has a powerful quad core i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, a nice storage with a fast 8 GB SSD and of course, a nice GTX 960 dedicated graphics card. It will run Skyrim excellently while doing a decent job with Fallout 4. It also has a decent battery life and good build quality.

Looking for $500-$700 General Use / Light Gaming computer, may be willing to pay a little more for something worthy!

If you can go for the y700, then it would be a better deal to get this Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK that instead of having of straight HDD, has an SSHD with an 8 GB SSD that will do a huge deal in boot speed etc..

You can save a ton of money by going with this. Still gets you an i7 quad-core and dedicated graphics, is about $800. Pretty dang good option for the money as long as you didn’t plan on playing brand new AAA titles on high settings.

US <$1000 General Use Laptop

Posted on: January 3, 2017 by Orangematz

Well, for CAD you’ll still need something with a quad-core i7.

And, GTA V runs much nicer on a 1060 than a 960M.

But if you prefer something less, you could go with this.

Looking for a bang-for-buck gaming/video-editing laptop under $1000, preferably closer to $800

Since you are concerned with the longevity of the dell then I would recommend this MSI GE62 Apache Pro because it comes with quad core i7 i7-6700HQ which is one of the best in the market, 12 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage(but you can add a SSD later once you have enough budget), better build quality, more powerful 970M GPU for better gaming performance than the 960M on the dell and it is just enough for your budget.

Looking for a bang-for-buck gaming/video-editing laptop under $1000, preferably closer to $800

Posted on: January 3, 2017 by Michiganders

If you want top battery, the Dell Inspiron 7559 for $800 would fit your needs very well. It has pretty good specs with a quad core i7-6700HQ processor, 8gb of ram, and a 1TB HDD. It also has a GTX 960M graphics card with 4GB VRam. It has an advertised battery life up to 10 hours, a full 1080p IPS display and a white backlit keyboard.

If you want a more powerful system, you may have to spend around $1100-$1200 for a machine with a GTX 1060, but I’m not sure it’s entirely necessary given the games you are interested in. If you think you’ll get into more graphic intensive gaming in the future though, it may be worth it.

Pre-Built Gaming Laptop, 15"-17", US, <$1000

Posted on: January 2, 2017 by LonerIM2

Usually I would recommend this that Shopineer suggested, but the main advantage of that is its battery life, and since you don’t care about that I would recommend either Acer-VN7 because of its bigger screen (I know you said that it is not a huge plus but if bigger is better then this is your option because it has almost identical specs to dell with the same price and bigger screen) or this ASUS K501UW because you are planning to take it to your “friend’s party” and it is very light for a gaming laptop at 4.4 lbs, and all three have the same GPU so the gaming performance should be somewhat the same (except with CPU intensive game the Asus would fell short because it only has dual core).

Need help choosing a laptop for daily use

I would recommend the **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle Dota 2 on high settings with high FPs with ease.

Or if you want to budget a little then I would recommend this Lenovo Ideapad 700 because it comes with quad core i5-6300HQ which is one of the best in the market, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good quality 15.6 full HD IPS screen(better than the Acer mentioned twice before), with 1 Year Warranty, 1TB of HDD for storage, 950M GPU which is more than powerful enough your games (also slightly less than the 960M on the dell) and it is within your budget.

Can someone help between 2 different laptops?

Posted on: December 31, 2016 by LonerIM2

this is the better option of the two just like Orangematz said, however, I would suggest this Acer Aspire V because it comes with similar specs like quad core i7, 960M GPU with 4 GB of VRAM, 8GB of ram, 1TB of HDD, has bigger screen and it is for less, but it also comes with better screen with better color reproduction and brightness which is recommended and great for photo editing.

If you want to get something with higher end than your budget then I would recommend a Dell XPS 15 or a ThinkPad because both come with better build quality and more suitable to a business environment.

Video editing laptop~ 15 inch, US, Budget: $1000

Posted on: December 31, 2016 by LonerIM2

I wouldn’t go with that as Shopineer said that comes with CPU that is not powerful enough, instead I would recommend the **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle video/photo editing..

I wouldn’t recommend it, the main thing to look for in a gaming performance is the GPU and this doesn’t have a good one and cost more, if you can push your budget then I would recommend
The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU which is more powerful than the 950M GPU on the lenovo linked in my comment.

Or if you want something lighter I would recommend the ASUS K501UW because it comes with great specs, dual core i7 which is powerful enough for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, good SSD storage of 512 GB for faster boot up and loading, high build quality, very good battery life (reviews on amazon range from 6-10 hours of light to medium usage with no gaming), 960M which is the same as the dell and can handle your games with no issues, 15.6 inch of FULL HD that you will need for photo/video editing and it is lighter than your current laptop at 4.4 lbs.

Looking for a roughly $1000 or less laptop

Posted on: December 29, 2016 by Michiganders

My best suggestion would be the Dell Inspiron 7559 for $800. The dell comes with a quad core i7-6700HQ processor, 8gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has a GTX 960M graphics card which should easily play GTA V and even more demanding games if you wish. It has a full 1080p IPS display, a long battery life (advertised up to 10 hours), and a white backlit keyboard. It also has a pretty solid build quality, and is good at mitigating heat.

If you don’t think you’ll need tons of storage and you’d prefer the speed of an SSD though, I may suggest the $740 version of the Dell 7559.

If you want a more sleek design and light weight laptop, maybe look into the ASUS K501 for $830. It isn’t quite as powerful because it only has a dual core processor, but it could still play GTA V and other similar games decently easily. It will just struggle with more CPU-intensive gaming. It has specs including a skylake i7 processor, 8gb of ram, 512gb ssd, and a GTX 960M graphics card. It weighs in at just 4.4 pounds, has a decent battery life, and a 1080p TN display.

Would also suggest the Inspiron. Best option for the stuff you’re doing.

1000-1500$ (US) Gaming laptop.

Posted on: December 26, 2016 by Michiganders

My best suggestion would be the Dell Inspiron 7559 for $800 because it has a good mix of power and battery life. You could look into some laptops with new pascal graphics, but all will have very poor battery, rarely lasting over 4 hours. The dell comes with a quad core i7-6700HQ processor, 8gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It has a GTX 960M graphics card which will work just fine for light and moderate gaming. It has a full 1080p IPS display, a long battery life (advertised up to 10 hours), and a white backlit keyboard.

There is also another RAM slot and another storage slot if you would like to upgrade either in the future.

If you want something that will really future-proof you though, maybe look into the ASUS ROG STRIX for $1250, which has one of the largest batteries of any laptop with a GTX 1060. It’s specs include a quad core i7-6700HQ processor, 16gb of ram and a 1TB HDD. It’s GTX 1060 graphics card is extremely powerful and will meet any gaming needs you have. Its battery is decent and advertised up to 5 hours.

work laptop for under 800$

I would recommend The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7 like you wanted, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games.

US, $700-800, looking for 3D art/development laptop with good build quality

Posted on: December 26, 2016 by LonerIM2

I usually recommend this Dell-Inspiron but since you are concern with the build quality I would usually recommend this Asus K501 because it has more premium build but it also comes with dual core which will slow your 3D work and it is also slightly over budget, so what about this Acer Aspire V? it comes with quad core i7, 960M GPU with 4 GB of VRAM, and it is almost within budget.

Light gaming laptop with good storage and battery life.

Posted on: December 25, 2016 by LonerIM2

If you want to budget a little I would recommend the The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle your games very well (except Planet Coaster professional reviewers say they need a lot of power, but user reviews say 960M is more than enough).

But if you can push your budget a little and settle for less battery life then I would recommend the ASUS GL502VM because it comes with very good build quality, very good cooling even during gaming or video editing, and with great specs for the price point like quad core i7 which is one of the best CPU in the market, 16GB DDR4 RAM for smooth multi tasking, USB Type-C Gen 2, 1TB HDD for games storage, and of course 1060 GPU which is much more powerful than the 960M on the above dell, backlit keyboard which is a nice plus, and you can add a SSD later on if you would like (or buy one preconfigured with one) and it is 4.8 lbs so not so heavy to be carried around on a daily basis, the fans are loud under heavy load (intense gaming and heavy video editing) but it is not loud on light usage.

Light gaming laptop with good storage and battery life.

Gaming laptop for under 800 bucks

This **Inspiron i7559-2512BLK** is the best in that budget and perfect for the games you play. With a quad core i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, a large 1 TB HDD plus 8 GB Fast SSD and of course, the Nvidia GTX 960 dedicated graphic card, you are certain to run games like Lol, Dota2, Warframe on their best settings. As for Netflix, that is a simple task for this machine- you will enjoy watching your HD movies in at full 1080 resolution. It does have a backlit keyboard, decent build quality and a good cooling.

Gaming laptop 500-800USD

Posted on: December 24, 2016 by LonerIM2

For your budget I would recommend either The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle the games you mentioned on medium to high settings with very good FPs, and it is within your budget

Or this Acer Aspire E 15 E5 because it comes with 940MX GPU which is great for this price point and the minimum that I would recommend for your games, dual core i5 for your general usage and gaming, 8GB DDR4 which is enough ram for smooth multi tasking, Good SSD storage (256GB) for faster booting and and overall performance, 15.6-inch Full HD which is great for video watching and it is within your budget range.

Then I would recommend this Dell inspiron because it comes with a quad core i7 which is one of the best CPU in the market, 8 GB RAM for smooth multi tasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, 8 GB SSD for caching (slightly better than HDD, but not as fast as pure SSD and you can add SSD later if you want/need), 960M GPU which should be enough for mainstream games you on medium settings and it is within budget.

Posted on: December 20, 2016 by LonerIM2

If you value battery life more then I would recommend this Dell inspiron because it comes with a quad core i7 which is one of the best CPU in the market, 8 GB RAM for smooth multi tasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, 8 GB SSD for caching (slightly better than HDD, but not as fast as pure SSD and you can add SSD later if you want/need), 960M GPU which should be enough for the games you mentioned on medium and it is within budget.

If you prefer gaming performance then I would recommend this MSI GE62 Apache Pro because it comes with a more powerful GPU (970) to give you better graphics and higher FPS, it also comes with type C USB port which is a nice bonus, but the battery life is not as good as the dell and it is more expensive.

Looking for a gaming laptop, want to know if these are good choices.

Dell Inspiron i7559

799 USD, will be enough for Dota 2, I’m using a laptop with similar specs, gets 80-90 FPS on High with all effects turned on. I haven’t tried the new 7.00 that much though, some ppl tells there are performance issues. I haven’t felt any issues though.

Maybe look into the Dell Inspiron 7559 for $780. It fits your needs pretty well with very solid specs, a good battery life, and a good build quality. It has a quad core i7-6700HQ processor, 8gb of ram, and a 1TB HDD. There is also another ram slot and another storage slot if you would like to upgrade either in the future. It has a GTX 960M which should aid with solidworks or any other graphic intensive programs you find yourself using. It has a pretty long battery life advertised at up to 10 hours, a full 1080p IPS display, and a solid build quality. It weighs in at 5.6 pounds though.

You can also find a version for $740 if you’re fine with a quad core i5 would would prefer a SSD.

Unfortunately the best light-weight 15.6” laptop with a 960M is out of stock right now on Newegg and Amazon (Acer V15 Nitro).

Dual core vs quad core processor for light/medium gaming

Posted on: December 18, 2016 by LonerIM2

Your budget allows for a better laptop, I would recommend this Dell inspiron because it comes with a quad core i7 which is one of the best CPU in the market, 8 GB RAM for smooth multi tasking, 1 TB of HDD for storage, 8 GB SSD for caching (slightly better than HDD, but not as fast as pure SSD), 960M GPU which is the same as the one you linked and for sure will give you better performance than your old 650M, however, if you can push your budget to 1200~ let me know cause laptops with 1060 start to become available and will worth the extra money to “future prof your laptop”, you can check this list of best gaming laptops with 1060 to have an idea what the best most affordable options are.

Decent college/steam capable laptop ~$1000

Posted on: December 17, 2016 by LonerIM2

With your budget and usage you can go two ways, either The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life which is the main selling point for this laptop in your case, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games.

Or the the ASUS K501UW-AB78 mainly because of its weight and build quality since it is almost 1 lb less than the dell, it has the same amount of ram (8GB), 512 GB of SSD (which is a main advantage over the dell since it comes with 1 TB of HDD), but it also comes with dual core i7 (instead of the quad core on the dell) and not as great as battery life.

Opinion on this laptop for gaming

Posted on: December 16, 2016 by LonerIM2

The main advantage for this laptop is light weight, if you are not concern about that then I would recommend either this Dell inspiron because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7 which is one of the best CPU in the market and better than the quad core i5, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games and video editing work.

Or this MSI mainly because it comes with slightly more powerful GPU (970M).

Then I would recommend this Dell inspiron because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7 which is one of the best CPU in the market, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games.

I'm considering getting a decent laptop to help optimize video recording/editing. Please help![$600-$800 USD]

Posted on: December 13, 2016 by The---Technician

For video editing, you need a solid i7 quad core processor, 8GB RAM or more, a dedicated graphics card and of course, enough storage. This Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK would be perfect for you within that budget. It has a quad core i7 cpu, 8 GB ram, a solid gtx 960 dedicated graphics card and a large storage with a small 8 GB SSD that will give some much needed boot speed. It will do a very good job in video editing and production at large– you can also upgrade it’s RAM to 16 GB later on to add to its power. It will allow you to capture and render games with decent FRAME RATES.

Looking for a laptop for video editing/gaming that's thin and light

Posted on: December 13, 2016 by LonerIM2

thin and light don’t go hand in hand with editing videos with premiere pro, so I would either go with Dell Inspiron i7559 mainly because of the quad core i7, powerful 960M GPU, very good battery life, or with the ASUS K501UW because it comes with much lighter build at 4.4 lbs but with only dual core i7 which means it won’t be as good as the Dell in medium to heavy video editing(light work shouldn’t be an issue for dual core i7), so which is more important to you ?

Everyday use streaming, VMs, Visual Studio, SQL, and some gaming (15.6 screen, USA, max. $1500-$1600)

Posted on: December 12, 2016 by LonerIM2

What would you consider a “Decent battery life”, also if you can settle for medium settings for this games I would recommend The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard just like you wanted, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point or for watching netflix), and a 960M GPU that should handle moderate games like the ones your mentioned.

Game Design laptop possible?

That Dell laptop is okay for your gaming and graphic design but I would recommend you go for this Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLKthat has the i7 processor which will do better in some of your graphic editing tasks. It is temporarily out of stock, but should be available very soon.

Would the acer aspire e-15 be able to handle video editing?

Posted on: December 11, 2016 by The---Technician

$900 can give you a very good machine for video editing. This Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK with the Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ processor , 8 GB RAM , shared 8 GB SSD and 1tb hdd would be great. You can use the remainder of the budget to upgrade the RAM and add a dedicated SSD..

Gaming laptop for under 1k

Posted on: December 9, 2016 by The---Technician

I was hoping you could go up to the $999 and get this ASUS ROG STRIX 15.6″ GL502VT-DS71 FHD Gaming Laptop with the gtx 970 graphics card which would do a very good job for you and will be a bit future proof. Nevertheless, you still have options within your ideal budget range that will run the games you mentioned excellently at higher settings than you will settle for. This Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK 15.6 Inch FHD Laptop would be a very good pick. It has a nice powerful quad core i7 processor, 8 GB RAM, a decent storage with a fast 8 GB SSD and of course, a solid gtx 960 dedicated graphics card. It does have a decent build quality , nice screen quality and good battery life.

A 960M can run the games you mentioned on high with around 30 FPs (might drop or increase a little) but if you can wait I would wait since you are looking to play newer games on high as well, if you can’t and you are trigger happy then I would recommend The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should your games well as I mentioned.

For your usage I wouldn’t spend all of this budget on a gaming laptop, in face I would recommend The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games like the ones you mentioned on medium to high settings with high FPS.

Gaming laptop battery life?

Posted on: December 6, 2016 by LonerIM2

It depends on your definition of high performance gaming laptop and good battery life (are you talking about 3-5 or 6-8 hours ? ) as others have mentioned you got the Alienware 15 R3 which comes with 1060 GPU but it is also way overpriced for a 1060 laptop, if you want less power but still very good battery then I would recommend The **Dell Inspiron i7559** because it comes with 960M GPU which is way less powerful than the 1060 but it is also much cheaper and has great battery life and can still play some mid range games with decent settings , you can check the benchmark scores for it here www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-960M.138006.0.html

Like Shopineer said, I would go with something that has quad core, so what about The Dell Inspiron i7559 because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for cache and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard which is a nice plus, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games and the same as the Asus.

How much can the prices go down during Black Friday Sales ?

Posted on: November 21, 2016 by LonerIM2

I was recommending this for someone with similar needs, so allow me to repeat myself, If you are not going to do any intensive gaming, then I would recommend either this Dell Inspiron i7559 because it offers great value for money , it comes with quad core i7, great battery life, 8 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 8 GB SSD for the OS and to help with load times(you can add SSD if you want more storage), 1TB for your large files, backlite keyboard like you wanted, 1080P screen (wouldn’t recommend any less at this price point), 960M GPU that should handle moderate games with ease and it fits your budget well.

Or this sweet deal on the MSI GL62 because it has everything you need at a great price, a powerful quad core i7, 12 GB of ram for smooth multi tasking, 1 TB HDD for storage, small SSD storage (128 GB), for faster booting and and overall performance, USB C which is a nice bonus , it doesn’t have a Backlit keyboard though, 960M GPU just like the Dell’s and comes with 4 USBs (1 C, 1 2.0 and 2 3.0), and it around the same price range.

Looking for $1000 laptop for gaming, USA

Posted on: October 24, 2016 by LonerIM2

I would suggest this Dell Inspirion because it comes with Intel Quad Core i7-6700HQ 2.6 GHz Processor(one of the best CPU in the market), NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB GDDR5(powerful enough for your usage and games), 8 GB DDR3L SDRAM(great for multitasking),1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD Hybrid Drive Storage(for the OS), 15.6 Inch FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) LED-lit Truelife Screen
Windows 10, and it comes with great battery life and backlit keyboard (as a nice bonus).

If you want to “future prof” your laptop gaming wise, then you should look for 1060 GPU, if that is the case, let me know but that will mean you will need to push your budget to 1250~1400 to get that.

Lenovo Y700 or Alienware 15 ? Is the price difference worth it ?

Posted on: October 6, 2016 by retardedgenius21

Also consider this one: Dell Inspiron 15 7559. It has the same specs as the Y700, except for the lower RAM and an SSHD instead of a separate SSD, both of which are easily upgradeable. It also costs 88,690 – 14k less than both of the above for essentially the same specs, which you can put into getting a 256GB SSD+8GB ram stick, which would run you an additional 9-10k, ending with a saving of 4-5k despite having twice as large an SSD as the Lenovo.

I've searched Amazon and Consumer Reports and I still can't decide what laptop to get.

Posted on: October 5, 2016 by LonerIM2

8 GB DDR3L SDRAM (great for multitasking),
1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD Hybrid Drive Storage,15.6 Inch FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) LED-lit Truelife Screen,

You can get one with 16 GB and still be under 1000 if you feel like you need more RAM.

I actually disagree with all that was mentioned, the new 1060 GPU is very new (around couple of month) and it is highly unlikely to drop under 1000 any time soon (few months at least) so your choice is a good one, I would recommend this configuration if you are planning to use it for anything other than gaming because of the better CPU.

Hey Guys I Want To Gift My Brother A Gaming Laptop But I Don't Know If It's Good Enough

Posted on: September 10, 2016 by TheMekaUltra

With a budget of 1000$ I would recommend to go for a desktop if possible, since most gaming laptops around that budget will become outdated rather sooner than later. Now if it’s not an option to get a desktop I could recommend this one

https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-2512BLK-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ0J6

Its equipped with an i7, gtx 960m and 8gb of ram which should run most games fine at low-medium settings and it’s only 850$

Now that one is a 15.6″ so its more portable so a bit smaller (still really comfortable to play on trust me) but if you rather have a bit of a bigger screen you can get this one

https://www.amazon.com/GL752VW-DH71-17-3-inch-GTX960M-Graphic-Windows/dp/B01578ZK9A

This one comes with almost the same specs, only with double the RAM (16gb) which is also a great thing since 8gb is like the standard in gaming nowadays so if you have double that you should be more than fine. (don’t get me wrong you won’t run games much better because of the double ram, it’ll just allow you to run more processes at the same time)
Also it costs 995$ so it’s on the edge of your budget, without counting delivery costs so yea you’ll have to look that up.

Specs wise they are the same, but I believe this Dell has better battery life, the link you have doesn’t have the weight, so that might be something to consider as well

I disagree, this configuration for 20 USD more is better because of th i7 2.6 GHz CPU, it is not a major difference but it is worth the 20 bucks.

Dell Inspiron i7559 for college student. Business work and gaming.

I have not owned one, but the short answer is yes, this configuration is great but if you can afford it, I would get this configuration because of the extra SSD space, and I agree with AdityRav, if you don’t have prime and want it before 20th I wouldn’t take the risk and order soon

The *** i7559*** is a very decent choice for you… It will definitely do a great job for in all the tasks you do related to your studies , work etc and will run all games available at the moment– the more demanding ones on mid settings etc.. This specific model also is very light weighted and has a very good battery light-two features every college student would want in a laptop.

The Dell That was suggested is a good option, however since you are welling to go a little over 1000 USD, I would recommend either this MSI GE62 Apache because it comes with better GPU(970M), which means better performance on new games and more future prof, plus it also has i5-6300HQ Quad Core Processor (2.3-3.2GHz), 256GB SSD(great for faster booting and loading), 8GB DDR4 2133MHz(great for multitasking), Graphics Card: NVIDIA Geforce GTX970M 3G GDDR5 | Display: 15.6″ Full HD eDP Vivid Color 94% 1920×1080 or even this refurbished Acer Predator if you want a 970M GPU but don’t want to go over 1000 USD.

Long lasting, dependable laptop for gaming and school

Posted on: January 6, 2016 by [deleted]

Honestly http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-2512BLK-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ0J6

Granted the laptops you linked all have a 960m, at least this one is the 4GB variant.

Don’t expect desktop gaming performance on a 960m either, don’t want your expectations to high, but the laptop I listed is perfectly durable and long lasting, it includes a panel on the bottom to add an additional HDD/SSD as well as the ram being upgradable to 16gb

The suckish aspect to laptops is there isn’t a decent way currently to have a portable gaming laptop that doesn’t reek of that “gaming attire” or sound like a jet engine.

So if you are content with playing Fallout 4 at say medium settings then don’t waste the extra money.

PS. Dell laptops are top tier when it comes to durability. Not Asus.
