Hey all. So I am a video editor and a student.

Posted on: August 5, 2017 by shopineer

I would get a quad core i7 CPU and a dedicated GPU for video editing.

What about the **[Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro] (https://shopineer.com/laptops/Eluktronics-N850HK1-Pro-Premium-Gaming-Laptop-Intel-Core-i7-7700HQ-B01N7YTLD0)**?

It has a fairly professional look (if you turn off the keyboard backlight).

It also has an IPS screen for wider viewing angles and with a fairly high color accuracy (based on previous comments in this sub). You can upgrade RAM and add an HDD later on if required.

The GTX 1050 Ti should handle most modern games on high settings.

Mac-like Stability on a Windows Music Production Machine

I think Windows laptops are generally stable. Not sure what kind of proof you are looking for, but maybe you want to ask in a music production forum regarding people’s experiences with Ableton in particular?

Also, I would look at user ratings and maybe consider something with a clean Windows installation (no bloatware).

The Ultimate Amazon Primeday laptops' deal listings where deals are added as they become available and removed when they expire or become unavailable.. Be quick and take advantage!

Posted on: July 12, 2017 by The---Technician

Just to inform you. They are not really a laptop manufacturer as such- they can be better called assemblers as they don’t build the parts they use..They instead use Clevo chassis/ case that are known globally for their durability and install processor, motherboard, graphics cards, display panels etc followed by installing important software and programs such as OS, drivers etc.. The high ratings on Amazon will tell you a lot about how people view them as a company. They are also known for their very good customer service and quick delivery of ordered systems.

As for the **N850HK1 Pro ** It will do a decent job in gaming.. It has a little weaker GPU than the Helios has, but match it up in all other departments..In fact, it has a better display, keyboard, heat management and build quality as well as it’s design being more neutral ensures that your laptop can be used in all different environments.

I’m looking for something similar in a slightly higher price range. Priority is portability and a professional look. This is what I came up with so far.

Also the Gigabyte Aero series looks amazing, but it’s well outside my price range. The cheapest I could find is $1200, open box, last year model.

Acer Helios has a GTX 1060 for a low price, it just doesn’t share these aspects.

is the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M that bad?

Posted on: June 25, 2017 by edit1754

Also be aware this is a PenTile (RG/BW) not-true-4K display. More info in the sidebar PSA. I would make sure your apps scale correctly, but if you want 4K, there’s a $900 Lenovo Ideapad 700 Touch 4K, which is a *true* 4K display.

But again it’s also only a 960M, and if you’ll take advantage of the GPU, there are GTX 1050 Ti laptops in this price bracket instead.

Which brings me to this: If you like the Inspiron series with the new GPUs, make sure you’re getting one of the newer ones with IPS and not low quality TN for the display. This one has IPS: www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-inspiron-15-6-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti-256gb-solid-state-drive-black/5872507.p It’s this kind of difference: https://i.imgur.com/Sajajqc.jpg

Or if you wanted higher sRGB coverage on the internal display, this: https://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-N850HK1-Premium-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B01N7YTLD0/

You can also get it from obsidian pc in uk: https://www.obsidian-pc.com/en/clevo-n850hk1/

If you get it from US you will be paying the (US price + shipping)*VAT . if you buy from UK it’s UK price+shipping , also for warranty purposes you will need to send it back to the country where you bought it from.

i5577 has a low quality TN display with poor contrast and viewing angles, pretty bad for this price and even its base price (like $750) I would say. If you’re in it for the 512GB SSD, I would pick this one: https://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-N850HK1-Premium-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B01N7YTLD0

Laptop for recording / editing music, general use and light gaming?

Posted on: June 17, 2017 by The---Technician

For the audio editing, CAD and of course, the gaming, a quad core processor is recommended, 8 GB RAM the minimum, you will need a dedicated graphics card for the gaming and CAD as well as a large enough SSD to store your working files as well as store files directly after recording will be important. This **Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro** would be a very good pick for you. It definitely has the performance power you will need for gaming, CAD and audio recording..It comes with a large 512 GB SSD which has the OS and you can temporarily store recorded files to it as you will be able to take advantage of the speed of an SSD in recording and editing then transfer them when needed to , to an external HDD or if you want to add another drive to the empty slot available.

For photo editing a dual core processor normally does well, but since it seems your wife will be doing it quite heavily, I recommend you go with a laptop that has a powerful dual core processor and at least 8 GB RAM.. She will also need something with a very good display quality. This **Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro** would be a very nice pick for her. With the powerful Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core processor, great 16 GB RAM, fast 512 GB SSD and a powerful 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card, you can be certain you have the power to do what you want to do and certainly feel comfortable in knowing that your laptop will perform well a few years from now. Apart from pure performance, it has a beautiful color accuracy 1080p IPS display, nice much sought after Full Size RGB Color Backlit Keyboard and a very good build quality. It weighs 5.6 pounds which I think should be fine for her..It’s build quality has a lot to do with some of this weight.

Laptop for video editing in Premiere CC (USA)

The FX502VM uses a low quality TN display with poor contrast and viewing angles. I wouldn’t go for this laptop.

The Dell XPS 15 is great. More good options with IPS 72% NTSC displays:

Eluktronics N850 (This Eluktronics one. N850 through other sellers has a less-good IPS display with lower sRGB coverage)
Eluktronics P650 (This Eluktronics one. P650HP*3* from Prostar and Sager uses display that is IPS but has lower sRGB coverage)
Lenovo Yoga 720 / Link 2 (whichever link is cheaper)

Eluktronics laptops are based on the Clevo chassis. They are quite popular in this subreddit and they also get good reviews.

The 1050 Ti GPU should be able to run most modern games on high settings (Pillars of Eternity should not be a problem).

that laptop is more expensive than the ones I mentioned already, and as I said you don’t need quad core i7 for your usage, but if it a must for you then this would be a great choice as well.

Looking for something good for music production and gaming, 800-1000 USD

Posted on: June 11, 2017 by sniper344

Is it ok if I go over a bit with your max budget because this laptop is definitely worth it.I am talking about the **Eluktronics N850HK1** it has a really great display and the over all specs is amazing for the job that you want it to do. I love the Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core processor that it comes with, deals with all the music softwares you have listed and more .When looking at gaming on this machine a 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti is exactly what you want to have, this graphics will run Witcher 3, skyrim, lol etc in high settings without a problem. As I said eariler I have looked into the display and the 15.6inch Full HD IPS Display is brilliant :-). Built quality is great and 512GB Performance SSD + 16GB DDR4 RAM excellent, also nice battery life.

For engineering and gaming I would suggest getting a powerful processor and a good dedicated graphics card, With that said it leads me to the **Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro Premium Gaming Laptop**. It really packs a punch that will knock out any body in this price although it’s a bit over your budget so worth it. It comes with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ Quad Core perfect for Catia, Autocad, Simio, Promodel, Arena-Solidworks, Minitab and Matlab .A graphics that will have you think where have you been :-), 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti which makes Watch Dogs 2 and GTA5 look like child’s play smooth sailing in high setting. I also love the 15.6inch Full HD IPS Display 512GB Performance SSD + 16GB DDR4 RAM that it has and the batterylife is good too.

Will I find anything similar for this price range? USA ~$1,000

Sims 4?

Not a bad option.

The display though: Prostar uses the stock Clevo display which is currently the same as one of the panels in the Lenovo Y520, LG LP156WF6-SPK3. I’ve seen it in Costco — it’s definitely better than low-quality-TN, but the colors are a bit muted compared to what Eluktronics uses in their N850HK1

If you like the relatively non-gamer look, a Clevo N850 I think might be even more in-line with what you want. Plus better battery life and, if you get an Eluktronics version, a more color-saturated display. Just don’t get the Gigabyte version (Sabre 15), as it costs more than Eluktronics but uses the lower-saturation type of IPS display as well as a smaller-capacity battery.

The $949 one Shopineer linked only as a 128GB M.2 SSD, which is fine if you’re getting that and you have a HDD lying around that you want to add (there’s a slot for it). If not, you might want to either pick the 256GB version linked on that page for $50 more, or the 512GB + 16GB RAM verison for currently only $100 more ($1049 total, great price on this I would say).

(Note that Eluktronics’ offered 4K config option is PenTile RG/BW not-true-4K. More info in the sidebar. I would have other suggestions if you wanted a higher-than-1080p res).

Looking for decent, portable engineering laptop for university

For what you will be doing, a quad core processor preferably an i7 is recommended. I will also recommend that you get a machine with at least 8 GB RAM and a decent dedicated graphics card. A decent display is also crucial and an SSD would be a great ‘have’. As it relates to the optical drive, I think it’s best if you get an external one as most laptops now don’t carry such drive. In your budget, I would recommend you go for a gaming laptop (doesn’t have to look like one), whose specs will be ideal for the applications you run and type of tasks you have to complete. This Eluktronics N850HK1 Pro would be a very good pick.It fits your criteria very well and would do a fantastic job for you. It has a new and powerful 7th gen i7 quad core processor, huge 16 GB RAM, fast 512 GB SSD, powerful GTX 1050 Ti graphics card along with an excellent build quality, great keyboard, good cooling system and importantly, a beautiful IPS display. As much as it seems so bulky, it weighs only 5.6 pounds (very similar to your old Lenovo T5300.
